Hm, actually I did wonder which way I should put the spear into his hand. I decided for head on top because it looks like a commad/victory-ish kind of pose.
For the "ready to throw"-pose I'd like to see his hand a bit more turned to the back.. but I'm not sure if I want to risk to cut it off, when the metal already is so thin because of the hole..
Anyway, as always thank you for your compliments, I really appreciate it! :)

PS.: I just noticed though: Maybe I could saw his arm off, where his chainmail ends. That would give the right angle too, when i turn his forearm a bit and it would be a much "safer" conversion than to cut off the hand. Also easier to pin, if I have to.

Sorry for the double post, but well, nobody has commmented since then.
Anyway... here (finally!) is another finished project!
My captain and hornblower from Rohan. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out at the end, when I think back to the troubles I had with them at the beginning (bubbles in the resin, bent weapons, too deep eyes, etc.)
So, what do you think?

Great work Rognarr!
Like the detail on the horn and the way you based the miniatures ;)

This weekend I had some time, since I've finished my papers for uni so far.. FINALLY! :D
So I took the time to paint my Rohan banner bearer conversion (in time for the challenge ;) ).
Also I improved my Éomer conversion with a more dynamic pose of the arm (I've sawn it off!).
Last, but not least I had a closer look to a Gandalf the White on foot, I got cheap from ebay. Turned out, that his arm was the arm of the mounted white Gandalf.. :? So my saw was needed again to cut off most of the arm attached to the staff. Maybe a little GS-work to finish it, but I guess in general it doesnt look to bad?!
Let me know what you think! :)

I've been looking at your models for a while and wondered on your way forward. I would suggest reducing your final highlight areas.
For example, the helmet of your banner bearer could have a final highlight near the point only and the hands have the last highlight at the knuckles or the join part of each finger - I hope you get key drift.
There is no denying you have the brush talent it is now down to fine tuning.

Many thanks for the comments, and especially to you Gandlaf, for that constructive criticism! It's most appreciated since it's the only way to improve! :)
As you say it, I have to improve some of the highlights. For some funny reason my main problem is human flesh tones... I have no problem with uruk/orc/goblin skin and also cloth goes pretty well (as most of my armour does too I'd say). But for some reason human skin.. idk.. I have the feeling that the colour is either too thick, or too thin. I use bestial brown for skin foundation, and lighten it up 50:50 with elf flesh, then going for pure elf flesh... but ye. It looks like pure elf flesh most of the time :(
I will consider your tips and am happy about them!

Here's another piece, that I've just finished. I hope the highlights came out better this time!

This is more along the lines that I was saying. Highlights at the extremes work much better and if anything you could use a lighter colour on the very highest points, but it's much better.
As for human skin - try staging Dwarf Flesh between the Bestial Brown and Elf Flesh. Your aiming for Elf Flesh on the tip of the nose, the cheekbone, chin and the highest part of the forehead.

Well, looks like i gotta get me a new colour pot then, always thought i could avoid dwarf flesh ;) But you're right, I obviously need a better middletone. Thanks again Gandlaf!

In the meantime I could start a new little project..: a few ringwraiths!
(sorry for that unusual speed here, haha)
After I added a few (not too strong) highlights to the primed Nazgul, I wondered what I could add, to give them a little more contrast. Nazgul look pretty cool, but since they are all black and their blades will be of dark metal too, they look a bit boring colour-wise.
I always thought that the eerie, sick glow of Minas Morgul was a fantastic look and since the Nazgul are infact ghosts, I wanted to give them some eerie appearance as well. So I tried to give their blades (not yet painted) the green Morgul glow, shining onto the cloth..
What do you think about it? Anything to improve?
Tips, comments and critique welcome, as always! :)

I like your Eomer, Rog, thanks for the mail! The spear looks very good, which model did you take it from? I'm not sure about your Gandalf, I think his staff is slightly too long... I recommend chopping off an inch or so? Otherwise great work, looking forward to seeing them painted!

And I like your idea with the Wraiths... Indeed, they are a bit monotonous and your 'Morgul Glow' is very creative. I like the execution, too. The highlight is very slight yet noticeable. Great idea!

Rognarr - the green glow is wonderful, I love it and wait the finish with anticipation.
I think to put all three on one diorama would be a great touch.

The sickly Morgul glow looks great, brilliant idea to lift the miniatures and well executed :yay:

I second that, the sickly green glow really spices up those previously rather plain minis :)

Wow.. I am a bit overwhelmed by your nice comments, thanks guys!
I'm glad you like my idea. I have almost finished them now, in fact only the bases are missing, but I probably will add them to a diorama, so I will wait with the basing.
I tried to add a little green into the deep recesses of the blades and the steel gloves of the ringwraiths, it's hard to see on the photos though..
And then, when I had the 3 Nazgul finished, someone unexpected came for a visit... ;)
