It's a base coat of Tin Bitz, followed by Vallejo GC Gold, then armour wash.

I haven't really done much this week to be honest, just getting back into the swing of working nights, but I have been busy assembling minis when I get in in the morning.

Off to GW this afternoon for a game or two (to have my ass handed to me by some small Wood Elf or Grey Company bearing child no doubt) which will be hopefully enjoyable, in that I can field a fully painted army. Not sure what I'll be fielding, only that it won't be Elf shaped. Unless it's a Spectre.

:D

Elf shape is the worst kind of shape, next to the Rhombus.

Have fun with the games. :]

Thanks for the hints on the golden armor John, I'll have to give it a try! :D

Your productivity is very commendable. I wish I had more time to work on my own Backlog.

Well, I hate to see my public disappointed so...

I've bit the bullet and started to progress with some (brace yourself for a swearword) Elves...

Figured I'll try and get the remaining Wood Elves finished off, so that's 12 of the cruddy plastic ones, Legolas, the Banner Bearer. Finished off the cloaks on all the plastics and done some base coats on the two metal minis.

Off work tomorrow night, so I can hopefully invest a few hours into getting these guys done. And let's be honest, I don't really want to be spending any longer than that on them.

After that, it'll be 3 batches of 9 High Elves, including the 2 command models.

Man, it's been a while...

A big thanks to Tim (tidoco) for the Radagast mini, that's me got all the participants now.

Progress is happening on the Elves, I'm nearly done with the next 12 Wood Elves, the Banner Bearer and Legolas, just the details to do and a few washes here and there and the bases to get grassed.

In the meantime, with thoughts of the evil machinations of Isengard running through my head I've been doing a wee bit work on Saruman.

Image

Image

The robes are

- Scorched brown,
-Devlan Mud wash
- 50:50 Scorched Brown/Rawhide A.
- Rawhide A.

So far...

Next up is

- 50:50 Rawhide A/Rawhide B
- Rawhide B
- 50:50 Rawhide B/Rawhide C
- Rawhide C
- 50:50 Rawhide C/Bleached Bone
- Bleached Bone
- 50:50 Bleached Bone/Skull White
- Skull White highlights.

I'll probably do the robes up through grey to have a bit of contrast with his cloak, it'll also tie all 3 Wizards together, using a limited pallet. Sounds particularly impressive and well-thought out I know, but it just occured to me as I typed this.

Anyway, that's 4 stages of the robes done, only 8 left to do.

I feel faint, that's about 10 stages more than I'm used too...

I cannot wait to see how Saruman comes out. I've always had a hard time painting it and when I do I tend to dirty it so I can hide my mistakes.

Looks promising. There are one or two blemishes of metal flash on the robes though - if they are covered strategically with paint they will probably be less distracting.

Saruman's staff is traditionally a shiny black, unless you are heading away from that colour palette?

Looks real nice John, the face is brilliant, robes are good too. Look foward to seeing the end result - I reckon it will be good

Arrrgh, two updates in one day, the paintathon train is rolling again!

Probably in a flamboyant and exagerrated way involving glitter, leather pants and...

Oh, you mean you can't wait to see him finished. :D

Dave, you are a man after my own heart. if you can't make it look as good as you want, obscure the offending areas with ink. It's why I love Evil models.

Yup, I think he's also been down the beach, there seems to be bits of sand in all sorts of hard to reach places. I'm normally quite picky about cleaning up my minis, must have been a concentration lapse seeing as I batch built about 50 in the one go.

Hmmmm, I'm not really sure where I'm going. I don't want a carbon copy of the film Saruman, or the GW version, although I still want him to be recognisable.

I might go with the black to contrast the white robes, or I'm also tempted by a kind of beechy colour, to more reflect the fact this is 'good' Saruman.

Generally, I know I'm on the right track if I show the missus the figure and she recognises it. There have been a few odd moments though, like whe she told me I was holding Gimbli...

Still, I've got a few more stages done. Still have to do the pure Bleached Bone and the final white highlights.

Nice work John, Saruman is definitely recognisable. The only thing bothering me is the dark shadows, they maybe a little too dark! Then again it could just be the huge close up infront of me

A wash of Dwarf Flesh or maybe something a little darker will blend the shadow sufficiently and as for Gimbli, well, its not that bad, could have been worse, Legolard!

I'm not sure Dwarf Flesh would be the way to go. Then he'd be Saruman the Pink...

Anyway, enough of Gimbli, Legolard and (shudder) Gandalf on Halifax...

Here is how Saruman is coming along now. Finished off the cloak, and done the robes too. Did a little bit work on the skin, just really need to finish that off, re-do the hair and beard and get the staff done and that'll be him.
