Great looking trees and I think I'll be paying a visit to the website for the mats.

Almost finished the 4 big trees, bases will mostly be painted to match the gaming mat (so some brighter green drybrushed on and trial an error with browns and yellows with a big brush). I'll also do several smaller trees mounted on washers that can be placed on the outskirts of the forest.

Managed to score 10 metal warg riders and the classic radagast on ebay recently, photographed here based up and ready for conversions (sculpting).

Those trees look top notch, not seen anything quite like them before and they really work.

Very nice trees indeed. What kind of bark/branches are they. Very cool 8)

Bits of driftwood I got form a home store (Dunelm Mill I think...).

Originally almost white/cream in colour I had to wash them a few times with brown paint.

Gah, hobby time is always short but I've managed to get a little bit of painting done recently.

I've come to appreciate the LOTR designs a lot more after seeing the Hobbit (and getting all 3 of the amazing design books from weta workshop).

The warg riders have some minor conversions and new head sculpts. Uruk's just have the basic colour blocking and washing done, real painting will be next. The Eagle is pretty much done except for a scenic base which I plan to make.

Aaaaaah  So much awesomeness! I absolutely like the old metal wargriders and you have painted them really nicely (only the fact that they all have the same skin colour bothers me minimally). Are the heads of the wargs drybrushed?

The conversions are fantastic too and bring a great deal of variation into the horde!
Big horde of uruks...reminds me that I should paint some of those too someday!

Great job and thanks for posting 8)

Thanks for the compliments! This is just a batch of 4 out of 10, I'll be doing orc flesh variations on the others (greens and browns).

Yes the warg heads were basically drybrushing, 3 different tones with the darkest being heaviest.

Some great painting again on the warg riders as well as the subtle conversions.

I like the trees very much. They look like ancient oaks. It's good to see trees with a wide girth. Gaming trees are normally pretty flimsy looking.

Making a push to paint up two more warg riders to make six in total!

Image

And the basic colour blocking and washing down on some wood elves! Hopefully soon I'll have enough Elves to actually play a game (re-learn the game after not playing in years) against the misty mountain goblins.

Also check these out – I bought some plastic Zulu's and Macedonian pikemen from Warlord games to make some mahud and easterling allies. I got some old plastic wargs and thought I could convert them into hyenas... and make some mahud riders for them. Will be casting these rider guys up for personal use on future projects.

Excellent work as usual and getting the most out of the not-so-nice Wood Elf minis.

The wargs are excellent. They have so much detail.

Good job!

I already have a big painting backlog (at least they're constructed, based and undercoated... that's two thirds of the effort) but just put together a little Harad army!

Image

Also... I'm keen to start making fantasy style miniatures that will mesh stylistically and tonaly (and in scale) with the GW LOTR stuff. Here are a couple of tests I did, they will become heroes or something after a little more work.

The main thing here is that for the infantry I think I will go for sockets at the elbows, where I can, and separate heads. This will allow for decent pose variety with only 3 or 4 bodies when it comes to casting and production. Would folks prefer metal or resin? Maybe I should create a separate thread for the project.
