Thanks so much for all your wonderful resoponses guys! :) I would thank you individually but there are so many of you.

I probably will not cast this guy I'm afraid. I have some of the materials to cast him, which are expensive (and I could get a hobbyshop I know to cast him)
But, I don't think he's good enough to cast. When I make a much better model, then I promise I will get it cast and sell to you fella's.
Anyway, I never really had the thought of casting him in mind when I made him, so there are parts of him that would be too hard, such as the ropes.

However, Whenever I sculpt a figure, will definitely consider having it cast.
I plan on sculpting some more trolls in the future, so you may still get what you want.

One question though, If I sculpt a troll with and add in a weapon or head from the plastic troll kit, will I be able to sell that legally?

@Theavenger, I used Greenstuff, Procreate and milliput.

@UKFreddyBear, I'm not sure how those yellow bits got like that. I think I used greenstuff which was sold by another company and the putty was called Kneaditite. I'm not sure if it is the fault of the putty I used or what. Not from the bench, I'm sure.

Thanks again guys!
More updates coming soon! :)

Unfortunetly no,sure if it was someone like yourself who had cast it they probably would let you if you asked nicely but if its a GamesWorkshop they'd be suing like crazy. No worries though,we have ever the confidence in you that you can sculpt one from scratch(oh,and to try to get around the problem, casting parts to use to try to make it legal is illegal too)

Ok, thanks.

If I sculpted it from scratch, what if it has a very similar resemblance to a GW figure and is obviously copied from it?

Its a fine line. I think Thomarillions trolls got pulled for looking too similar, even though they had an extra digit on each hand/foot.

Does that mean that I wouldn't be able to cast and sell Buhrdur even if I wanted too?

I don't think so.
From: https://www.games-workshop.com/gws/cont ... eMode=true

Games Workshop wrote:
Do not cast any materials that are based upon Games Workshop material. Games Workshop has to maintain a strict policy on this to fight counterfeiters. We would also remind you that reproduction for personal use is NOT an automatic exclusion in respect of copyright protection in many territories worldwide.

Well, I read that web page.

So does that mean that I technically do not own the Buhrdur I sculpted? Does it also mean that making him was illegal?

I guess that if I want to sculpt something to cast and sell, it will have to look nothing like any GW material.

Thanks for helping guys. :)

It wasn't illegal, it just means that the model is not an original sculpt, but a conversion. :)
Don't be discouraged by this legal stuff, I want to see more awesome sculpting! 8)

Ok, thanks! :)

I may sculpt some half trolls next. But I plan to make them look quite different from the GW ones so I may be able to cast them.

If you made every part of the model, then it is an original sculpt, but in this case it isn't an original concept. That's the problem.

GW owns the name Buhrdur I am not sure who owns the concept for the movie style troll face. No one can own the troll concept. You own your conversion but you can not produce it for sale with out a license. If you want to produce a troll you would have to call it a troll leader or troll champ. A Grendel or Mordor troll might be trade marked. Buhrdur is trade marked. By calling your conversion Buhrdur you can't claim it is an original concept. Are you going to get in trouble ? No. Don't worry about it.
Just remember lawyers are a cost of doing business.
The sculpt is great make lots more. :yay:

Well you're still a minor aren't you samoht? So you shouldn't have to worry about some international law coming to bite you in the rear. But becareful of naming your sculpts after existing finctional material if you sell any in the future, better to give them generic names as someone has mentioned before.

Thanks guys.

OK, I'll keep in mind to create original names for all my future work.
And No, I'm not a minor anymore, Sacrilege, I am 18 now. :)

Anyway, I'm painting my sculpt now. Updates coming soon.

More trolls and maybe some haradrim stuff. Watchers of Karna or a Hashari or something. Not sure 100%. It will come to me eventually. :)

Thanks fella's.

Buhrdur's skin is finished, and so is his fur collar. I am currently doing his metal parts.

Here is a sneak peak of how my converted and sadly neglected Harad army is going.
All the foot soldiers are finally finished and are ready for painting.
