Just some quick shots of my completed Morannon Orcs. Will do some better shots with my whole orc army when I get a chance.

First some disclaimers:

No Men
Unpainted Elves
Workshop background
Very image intensive post

Thought the best way to show off my completed orcs was to put them into battle.

Elrond gathers his forces

The ground shakes and in the middle of the field a mound appears

Ascending the mound is the Dark Lord himself - Sauron

Commanding in the language of Mordor, his initial forces of Morannon Orcs gather around him.

Continuing his orders, the rest of his orc army appear.

That's an impressive number of troops. I count maybe 60 orcs?

Close! Including trolls, 242 orcs vs 102 elves.

That new piece of terrain looks great and what a collection you have! Great job getting all those orcs painted up and I look forward to seeing the good side done too. Are you planning to play this scenario one day? It would be quite an epic game if so!

Having finally finished painting orcs and putting the elves back into storage, I decided to tackle some projects that have been on the back shelf for awhile.

Finally based my dragon I got a year ago.

Image

The wheel barrow and gold I had on a separate base as an objective but decided to add to the dragon base to break up the grey.

It was nice to paint individual figures vs batch painting, first out of my metal mountain - Murin and Drar.

Since they are wanderers, went away from my usual basing for dwarves and went a greener route.

Very nice! I don't know anything about Murin and Drar, are they out of one of Tolkien's other books?

Slinky - Murin and Drar are a GW invention as far as I know. The only info about them is in the Armies of the Lord of the Rings. I'm surprised that they are no longer available on GW's site.

Grim Hammers don't get much love in the SBG Hobbit book world; the captain is no longer available, one scenario, no battle company with only one mention of being advanced to a grim hammer, out of stock on the US GW site.

Nice pictures as always. So much life. Almost like pictures form a live action film. I would like to see more of your dwarf board.

The Grim Hammers are pretty nice sculpts too! I don't know why they don't receive as much love from fans and GW as they should. All of these group pictures are excellent and very inspirational. My favorite might be the one with the statue in the background. Looks like it could come from the movies!

Thanks everyone, taking pictures in bright sunlight point out flaws in my painting that I can ignore in dimmer light. :-)

Went to my local hobby store (mask on, no more than 6 people allowed in store) to buy some paint. Looked at the wizkids DnD figures to see if there was anything that caught my eye.

Bought this pack to see if I could use the heads or staff on any LOTR figures.

Image

Had an extra Legolas from the mine of moria set and removed his head. With some trimming around the quiver and shoulders I replaced the head with one of the wizards. (easily taken off, trimmed the hair)

The Wizkids figures come primed white and when I looked at it, it reminded me of the Witcher so I painted the figure darker than originally planned.

The only complaint I have about the Wizkids figures is that their facial figures isn't always the best defined, should have looked at the package closer. While the figures are usually bigger that GW LOTR, the human and elf heads can usually be used.
