But thanks for the comment.

Looking good, I love the small flag.. how did you make it? Some highlights on the Dundean would be good, around the beared anyway. Man.. ginger beard - proud to be Scottish. :D Have you given the skin parts a base coat of brown before you put the peach on? I do it on my good models because it gives them a better look i find. Keep up the good work!

P.S. Still waiting for that hall update :-D

Thanks for the reply. The banner is just taken from the WFB flagellant kit. I'll try some highlights on one of my dwarf warriors before I try it on these guys. I just paint the dwarf flesh over the primer but I'll try putting on cathlan brown before hand and see how it goes. I'm glad you picked up on my scottish link. :D I'll getting some more sticks tomorrow when I got to see the new Harry potter. Yay!! I might pick up some of the wild men soon and I'm planning a 4'x4' board and all I need to get is the MDF for the top because I've got the wood for the bracing already. So expect some pics in a few weeks. Thanks for the comment.

The archers looks very nice but I suggest to layer the cloak of the hasharin not drybush it then it looks much better when you layer it.

Yeh I agree with you about the cloak - but how do you layer? My prowess belongs on the gaming table and sadly not the painting workshop. Do you mean by building it up from darker grey to a lighter one?
Thanks for the comment about the archers though.

Yes building it from dark grey to lighter grey, then it looks much better and cleaner.

Try to keep your paints thin and work fast but not rubbish, cause if you are painting to slow the paint dries out so keep adding water.

Ok ill try out your tips.
Well as promised here is my WIP ranger:

The washes have just been put on and the cloak has been highlighted. Putting on brown underneath the flesh is a really good tip so i think the flesh has tuned out well.
And me and my dad had a fruitful trip to B&Q:

Image

We got sand, MDF and brown paint for around £20 and we already have the wood for bracing but its too cold to do anything now but maybe tomorrow or next weekend. The board will be a 4'x4' (split into two 4'x2's) and it will have a river built into it.
SNOW!!!:

So what do you guys think? And where could i get balsa wood from to speed up the hall? Where do you get styrofoam (blue foam) from because im wanting to sculpt some hills on?

You wouldn't get balsa wood in B&Q, but there is often at your local hobby store, or at the nearest toy shop. They often have a back section for hobbies like trains or models etc.. The foamboard you are looking for will be at your DIY store like B&Q. It'll come under the insulation section, and it comes in big boards. I use foamcore at the moment, which is slightly different - but they're both just as good. 8)

Oh right thanks, im guessing hobbycraft would do it then? And i should have asked for the foam when i was there but oh well.
Here is the ranger finished totaling 3 hours including my estimate for basing time:

Please bear in mind that this is my first time highlighting but otherwise fire away with advice! :-D
This has got to be the best model i have painted to date so im very proud, he shall be named Bombur after my favorite dwarf from the hobbit. :D
thanks for looking and please comment.

He's coming along very nicely! The highlights really help, and i love the colour for the cloak too. Try giving him some eye's, it really adds that human touch. On an unrelated subject hows the snow where you are? We have lots, and the schools have already closed. :D

I don't think i have the skill for eyes yet but i will try them in the future. Just some touch ups on him and basing and he is all finished.
The snows ok but school hasn't been cancelled yet because it only snowed for 2 hours last night. But there is still two more nights so im still holding out hope....
Thanks for the kind words though mate.

Yay no school!! So I can do some painting today on a dwarf warrior. I have also been making some osgiliath style ruins and some progress on the hall will be made. Expect a proper update around lunchtime ish.
Thanks

Yep, Hobbycraft sell balsa wood, although you may be shocked to see how expensive it is. I know I was. Got mine from ebay in the end.
