I think that making squares would be easier than making tyles, less angles to cut perfectly to make the board fit together nicely.

Yep, squares would be easier but there would be less options to change the configuration of the board...and im quite fond of the hex-idea...here is a fine example what im looking for but in a bigger scale...scroll down for the good outside pictures...that board is not my making...

http://www.sotavasara.net/keskustelu/vi ... &start=120

jscottbowman, it would be like bree but in the ocean shore...Lond Daer sounds like a place for me, but im aming at the time of Wotr..i think that the harbor will be in Gondor but its not a big place..i think that the harbour will be a place, where wealth and glory used to be but nowdays it isnt so..so there will be nice houses, statues and the like, but time has left its mark...if you can understand what im thinking..and because the harbor is trying to survive, they take the money where they can..even from some shady merchants...

So thats my plan...

I have planned for making a Hex gaming board for some time now, and this week I have started to buy stuff for making one. I thought of having the sides of the hexes to be 6", that should be sufficient for making quite wide rivers and medium sized hills. And as JCoo said, even though it is more work than squares, the possibilites are so much greater. I hope to get started on the project this weekend with cutting out my first hexes.

Great to hear that somebody else is trying to make a board like this..

How thick will your hexes be? 6" is something like 14cm.. I decided to use 17cm, because houses in these thread are build on 20x20cm mdf boards and those have to fit in to the hexes..

Im currently looking for a decent foamcutter because i think i will need it alot..when i get my hands on one, i will start my project...

You're idea sounds very interesting. The hexes look great, how do cut the pieces so that they are perfect hexagons? Please keep us updated on your progress.

If someone wonders how did i cut the balsa, it was dead-simple...if you look at the third picture of the ornament, you can see my sawing tool..it is made from GW saw blade..i just glued two woodstrips at the end of the blade..this way i can have a decent grip from the blade..then just use a drill to make a little hole, bush the blade through and start sawing..

And dwarf lord, there is at least two methods to make perfect hexagons...if you draw a circle witch radius is the same as the hexagons side, you can draw a perfect hex inside of the circle..

Second...If you can calculate the diameter from side to opposite side, then you can draw the hexagons on a board witch is as wide as the diameter..then u just mark the lines on saw...this is bad way to explain this but im using this second method so you will see what i mean...

I wanted to do something different than GW so i used yellow armor. In my opinion charriots are given only for the bravest soldiers so im trying to descripe it with those lionskins..these are a start of my khandis army..im all ready painting footsoldiers wiht the same painsscheme..

As you can see there still little bit work before these are finished. In Shadow of the East it says that mercenarys have black flags..these will be mercenarys but i dont like the black flag, have to think some other idea..

Feedback is welcome..

How did you make the animal skull and the tiger face? Did you sculpt them or buy from somewhere?

I really like how you've painted them. The axes with the mix of yellow and silver look especially good. All of the painting is of a very high standard but I don't think the tiger skins look right. I would keep the heads they way, and maybe some skin around the head to make it look like it is being hung there, but I would paint the rest of the chariot with different colours.

I can understand why the horses are running; there's a lion chasing after them!

:P

Very well done minis, looking forward to the bases. :)

Oh cool. I don't have any normal chariots, only a king. That one doesn't have animal stuff on it though.

Ok, sometimes life just kicks you in the head, occasionally in a good way also..

i have been traveling literally around the world over three weeks with my girlfriend now..we returned home few days ago and and yesterday she announced that " im going to spend the last week of my holiday at my parents house so you can have some own time and for instance play with your mini-men.."

What the....??!?!? =)

Ok, some spare time and a order to use that time with my hoppy...thanks dear!!

So from this day on, im going to dedicate myself to miniature painting for a week..im not on a holiday, so im working normally 8am to 4pm, but it still leaves me good deal of time..first i tought that i would finish the houses, but because i seldom have this much time on my hands, i decided to focus on minis..

Here are the projects..if i finish these on time, im sure that i will figure out something more..

Image
Sauron has waited to be painted as long as i have been in this hobby..the armor will be very dark red..!!

Image
Arogorn the king..

Image
Latest additions to my collection, plastic Dol Amroth sprue..

Image
Trolls...ok, i painted this few years ago, but because im finaly doing my converted Troll Chieftain, i decided to repaint these also..

Image
Troll chief and the catapult troll...im goin to try a very VERY different paintsceme on these trolls..it will be something reddish..=)

Image
This is my workstation for the next actionpacked minipainting hobbyweek, this is going to be fun!!!!

ps. i try to update some fotos every day if i find the time...

I always love seeing other people's troll conversions. I can't wait to see the progress on them!
