Thanks everyone!

Been rather a chaotic week so I've only really had time to continue with Gamling today. I've painted the front of the banner, just needs a few finishing touches like green highlights on the horse motive. The freehand was a nightmare, dreading having to do the back of the banner too :/

Here he is:

Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I must admit it was VERY frustrating, what with trying to navigate the folds and getting it to look realistic! I must have spent at least two hours just trying to get the front side of the banner done! :/

Nice painting!

But I think the whole figure is bent back a bit too far.

How do you mean? I think the figure is originally at a bit of a weird angle...

Thanks for the nice feedback, guys!

Your freehand is amazing Matt, much better than I ever did on my own Gamling.

However, I'd agree with samoht on that he's falling over - the one I had before was pretty much perpendicular to the ground, straight up.

Don't mind him leaning back a bit. Makes it quite dynamic, like if he was leaning backwards to keep balance.

Just a quick update on my progress on the Royal Standard!

Image
Image

The front banner has been highlighted and is pretty much finished. Gotta get rid of that splodge of green 'hair dye' though.

Image
Image

The back banner still needs a fair bit of attention but the outline of the horse motive is done at least! It seems bigger than the finished horse on the front (despite the fact they're both the same length), not sure what I think about that yet. In a way it's sorta realistic, with the way the folds lie, and the back of the banner is sorta 'bulging' out, too!

This model has been painstakingly hard work, but it's gonna be worth it!

(Edit: I fixed the angle problem, too!)

Agreed - really nice work on that banner. To be absolutely honest I prefer the look you have with the model leaning backwards slightly. I painted this model about 6 months ago and I much prefer the pose of yours. I plan on repainting mine soon and am going to lean him backover too.

Excellent work on a challenging subject. Freehand can be a nightmare, so maybe the old adage about taking things slowly means any mistakes are spotted quickly and they will be smaller and easier to amend. Are you using the GW images as a cross reference for the banner? Here is another good reference - http://www.flaggen-pehl.de/FLAGGEN-FAHN ... :2387.html
I have the banner.
