Alright, so I've been a huge Tolkien fan for years, but I've always avoided the LOTR game out of concern GW wouldn't support it for more than a few years. I guess I'm convinced that it's here to stay now, and I'm on a bit of a hiatus from Warhammer, so I bought a guy's collection from him and got to work on some painting.

First on my to-do list is a Noldori force, based on the amazing Galahadrim miniatures. It's starting as a warband, but I imagine it'll eventually swell into a full on army. Eventually I'm going to try and model Faenor and his boys, with the bulk of the troops being either Noldori exiles or the forces of Gondolin.

Anyway, here are the first few units:

A unit of elvish cavalry:

And a few swordsmen:

And Glorfindel:

There are more elves to come, as well as a host of characters from the books (including Turin w/ Gurthang, Beleg Strongbow, and a pile of other Silmarillion types.)

They are, of course, just Galahadrim models, but I don't imagine there is (was?) really much difference between the rank and file Noldor and Galahadrim. Other than glowing eyes, I'm not sure how to depict the "light of the valar".

Yeah, I'm a big fan of all of Tolkien's work, aside from some of the poetry. In particular, I like the stuff about Beleriand and Gondolin, as well as the Akallabeth. Unlike Frank Herbert's kid, I think Christopher Tolkien did a great job with the Children of Huor, and so I like his stuff as well.

I'll post more ASAP, thanks for the comments,

Dan

Alright,

I, like many others, prefer converting & painting characters to units of rank and file soldiers, so to prevent myself from ending up with 4 beautiful characters in a sea of grey shlubs, I've decided to get a good portion of the troops done before then characters. Rest assured though, the 1st age heroes are coming!

Here is a WIP shot of the first pile of high elves - they're all base coated and washed. I'm debating adding a sea themed rune pattern to all of the cloaks, but I haven't thought of a good enough design yet:

Enjoy,

Very nice work indeed!

I'm sure GW will eventually drop support for LotR, but hey, as long as you've got all you need, it won't matter. Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Space Hulk etc still play as well as they ever did. :)

Keep us updated with your elves, I'm still yet to buy my 4 boxes of Gal elves, but it's always inspiring to see quality work like yours.

It was a busy weekend in Arda - I managed to finish up the spearmen, as well as converting several 1st age heroes. They required various degrees of work. I decided the theme I'm working on is the armies and heroes of Beleriand. I enjoy the stories of Turin and Beren more than those of Gondolin, and I think the Galahadrim models are dead ringers for what the forces of Beleriand would have looked like.

First, the spearmen:
Image

And the heroes. They are (from right to left): Thingol, Turin, Faenor (I couldn't resist - he's my favorite Tolkien character!), Melian, Gil-Galad, and Boromir dying (again, I couldn't resist - it's a great model).
Image

None of the conversions were too intense. Faenor is Elrohir w/ his right hand replaced with a hand holding a Silmaril. Thingol and Melian are gimmes - Thingol has a crown of leaves and a sword, but they're otherwise untouched. And finally, Turin (in his Mormegil days w/ the black sword) is Aragorn with his elven dagger removed.

Hope you like them, C&C are welcome.

I don't like the plastic galadhrim but you have painted them very well. 8)
and the conversion are nice and simple, (a very good combination)

keep up the good work.
