I've wanted to sculpt an orc for some time and now I'm going to have a go at it. First of all, I'm going to make lots of heads and then choose the best ones for which I'll sculpt bodies! Here's some of what I've done so far. The bits of wire are paper clips and the heads are the same scale/size as the metal GW orcs. |

Yay! A Natarn WIP! Tha orcs look much fouler than GW's, I like that. Will you cast the final pieces? |

Yeah, these ones all have nasty scowls on their faces! I need to work on some different expressions. As for casting... let's just see how they turn out. |

Thanks. One of the reasons I chose orcs is that it's easier to sculpt ugly faces than pretty ones! Another is that they are such a ragtag bunch that I will have a lot of freedom in choosing how to dress them and what armour and weapons to give them. It's another journey of sculpting discovery and so far I'm enjoying it a lot. |

Yeah, when you have failed to sculpt a human, you have succeeded in sculpting an orc. I'm sure they will turn out good enough to cast, considering the quality of your previous sculpts... |

You do realise Nate, that the common convention is to start out small, then move on to bigger things right? So, let's see Smaug's dad or something like that! |

So, let's see Smaug's dad or something like that! Ah, but in miniature sculpting, the common convention is to start out big and gradually get smaller. The smaller it is, the trickier the detail etc. Please don't talk about dragons, John. I won't be making another of those for a long long time (if ever)! I'll leave it a while before I paint it. For now, it's awful orcs. |

Wow, those look really great and full of character! Whenever you decide to get 'em cast, I'll be sending you a cheque On a similar note, ever considered sculpting for commission for, say, a certain up-and-coming roleplaying game a certain O-R member is working on *hint hint* |

So, you have been looking in the mirror a lot of late? I like them - these would make great alternate heads for the GW crop, so we could break up the cloned ranks of Morannon and Mordor orcs. Excellent work. |
