For my birthday, my wife got me a Games Workshop Realm of Battle Board.
My forces are all based in grey sandy moria goblin type stuff.
I'll have a go at doing the battle board in a similar theme, with lava pits instead of skull pits.
Will get pics up soon!

Here's a blog with lots of pictures of my work, just about finished now =)

http://simbattleboard.blogspot.com/2010 ... board.html

Hopefully it helps out people who want to know what NOT to do, made a few mistakes along the way, but I found it very helpful to read what other people did, so figured I should add to the knowledge base, even if it's nowhere near as good as what most of you here do =)

Finished!

Yay!

Came up better than I thought it would, and so happy that there aren't skull pits =)

Thanks especially to the lava guide!

Very impressive though the tranquil house looks a wee bit out of place.

Thanks for the nice comments =)

Overall dimensions are 6 boards of 2 foot by 2 foot each, so in the picture it's 6 foot by 4 foot.

The tranquil house is usually next to the well and the mushroom fields (that you can't really see well in the picture there). The March 17th page of the blog has a close-up of the house as mushroom farmer building.

Huge dwarf columns are definitely on my wish list, as are some sort of wooden mining gear or something. I've not really tried anything more complex than what you can see in the picture. ie. not much!

Will attach a battle report (fully pictured of course) after I attempt to defeat my brother tomorrow, probably vs. his Haradrim.

Nice looking board.

I think that the house is little bit too bright considering that the whole board is very greyish...

Huge collumns would be cool and also those wooden constructures...few large rockformations would give little bit more strategical depth and those are very easy to make..

I remember that there was an article back in the day in one White Dwarf where there was very nice looking dwarf stonebridges and stuff for Lotr and those wasnt even hard to make..if it helps, i can try to find that WD...

Nice work! shame your goblins were butchered, but there are plenty more where they came from

for next time drop the drum. its a nice piece of wargear, but the 100pts are just to much. it might be worth it if goblins had high F, but they don't

Personally i think bat swarm are very usefull, though they don't kill much, there anoying little (little?) buggers, able to kill of a banner when lucky, or save your more valuable models (read: troll) from being overswarmd.

I'll stop ranting about your army, after all this is a WIP...

VERY nice board! The lava came out especially cool. I have been eyeing the RoB board myself but haven't been able to pull the trigger yet.

I quite enjoyed the battle report, lots of nice pictures. 8) I agree that the cave troll would definitely have been better than the drum, then you get a couple more goblins as well.
