Hello, long time no see etc...

Fancied doing something quick and different so I dug out my LoTR Army of the Dead, (Deadmen of Dunharrow) and set to work.

Image

(Mix of undercoated, base coated and first ink wash).

I was looking for paint scheme ideas, going for the movie look nothing else. Tested it out a little on my recent deepones. Basically, Grey undercoat, VJ London Grey highlight/drybrush with successive additions of GW Skull white. Faces bare hands and beards further highlighted white. (No need to be too tidy as the wash and final highlight addresses that)

Image

(Note the custom standard bearer finally getting some paint!).

Image

Then a thinned down Thraka Green GW wash, (or two)

Image

Then a final highlight with VJ London Grey + more white.

Image

Very please with them, very quick and easy, but very effective, will get the rest finished tonight finger's crossed then basing.

Quite nice and similar to how I painted mine, although I think I did a few extra stages with a light green.

Well here's some shots, just the bases to do when they arrive from Fenris Games, (hopefully, Tues):

The far left was a axe man, this was missing from the figure, (ebay lot) so raided the middle earth bits box and found part of an elven spear. A quick trim and pin and drill and et vola!

We fight!

Enjoy

Well the Fenris Games bases turned up before the weekend so a little sanding down, undercoating and paint and they were done. Figures mounted on Sunday. Saw someone do a light mithril silver drybrush on the weapons and mail that worked so I gave it a go. Now all finished and sealed after the final touch up:

Enjoyed doing these, nice little diversion.

Cheers, the cobblestone bases are from Fenris Games, nice clean castings and really suit the dwellers of Dunharrow I think:

There's a heroic basing set that I've used with hurst bits and pieces for my Osgiliath games that I'll post once complete. Loads of good stuff there all very useful.

Good work on these warriors. Simple yet effective paint scheme. Have you considered adding some plastic warriors of the dead or riders of the dead to this group?

Yeah I have, was looking at a box last weekend. Don't know if I will, seventeen's enough I think but would be interested in them at some stage.

Cheers

Excellent work, I like that you haven't overdone it on the green; I think the grey works a lot better. It's far more in keeping with my vision of them in the books at least, great job.

Nice job on the army of the dead. They look appropriately spectral.
