Since I'm in a painting-mood again, I though about posting the progress once again...

Last week I finished some things that were in progress about a year ago, but they just kept standing on the desk and I never had the boost to finish them. Last week I did finish some of those figures in only a few days, and once again I realized when you just don't know what to do with the figure, just dip your brush and start painting. The inspiration usually comes anyway while the brush is striking...

So, one of the figures I've had in a black basecoat for several years (since a few months after it's release) and past two years also in a brown basecoat... was Treebeard.
Didn't know what to do for a long time, but I started drybrushing a bit on goodluck. And a few steps later I tried to add some green in the bark-cracks (?), ... and so... this is how it looked a little earlier today:

Good to see you painting again Bart, I love your minis. Treebeards looking good so far, I really like the green you've added so far, it gives the figure a natural 'mossy' look. I look forward to watching this one progress :)

Cool! maybe after you've finished treebeard you can make yourself an entmoot, using a combo of Majestic bear ents and GW metal ents (if you can find them..) or sculpt your own :D

You've got my interest too :)

I would love to do that actually! But I will try not to think about the next mini to paint, cause then I'm sure Treebeard will be locked up in the desk somewhere again for an unknown everlasting time before it's finished. The next project is always more interesting then the current one.. so as long as I don't have a next project, things look bright for Treebeard :-)

But I can't say I've not thought about doing more Ents though... I have several of them (6) waiting and now that I know I can trust myself on painting them, I might go for a little army! :D
Meanwhile I'm very looking forward to tonight so I can add some more life in Treebeard first!

I find that happens to me aswell Bart. I'll be happily painting one of my minis and then look at my backlog, see a different model that I'd really like to see painted and then pick that one up, forgetting all about the model I was in the process of painting. Before I knew it I had tonnes of half-painted minis.

A little more done... but still far from finished.
I would need real daylight to do the colours justice on photo, but this is close enough for now :)

Nearing the final stage now...
Meanwhile I stuck him onto the base and glued the usual amount of gravel and sand.
If all goes well, he "might" be finished by tomorow... and I'm realy looking forward to get him there now, he's been far too long treated badly in my desk (between several unpainted orcs and goblins and wargs...)

The green is looking very nice bart (as is the rest of the mini), really looking forward to seeing this finished. Are you planning on putting any foliage onto the mini or are you going to stick with what is already sculpted onto it?

thanks :-)

I have plans indeed, and to be honest, I already regret I stuck the sculpted branches/leaves onto the miniature...
Gonna stick the "foilage" on the mini as the very final part, as it would easily get damaged while doing some basing-work. So as soon as the base is finished, I'll add some things on his back to finish off... I got a good idea for it, lets hope it turns out ok as well :)

:yay: I missed this....... Anyway, great job so far, I really like the brown and the green combo for the bark, you did a really good job on that. The highlighting is also very good, it looks perfectly natural. I too look forward to seeing this foliage. :)

This Treebeard got me really into an "entmooD"!
Didn't take much more pictures of the progress of treebeard then shown here, but the next ents will be under the watching eye of my camera more often. If they turn out well, I may consider writing a Fangorn article some day later in the year.

Right now on my desk, ready to unpack are UKFB's 3 Ents. I prefer using these guys into an article for once :)
Then there's two more of GW (metal one (which doesn't fit between the rest imo) and the plastic "Beechbone" one) and I've been surfing on the web all morning for more info about the ents... and I really feel like taking out the miliput, greenstuff and sculptingtools to try my hands on sculpting 3 to 5 more myself...

Maybe it's those dark cold winterdays which brought me in a tree'ish mood or maybe my Ent-mood is driving me to an Entmoot... dunno, but I hope I will at least succeed in finishing 25% of my current plans on Fangorn! hehe...

I like the colors. Mine are a little dark.

I'd love to see your take on the majestic bear ents and self-sculpted ents. I still need to get some of UKFB's ents to go with my Treebeard (which like yours was, is undercoated and sat next to a tonne of other minis each at the same stage).

He looks fine to me, Bart. But...

Maybe a bit more black (or a black wash)? I’m no expert on painting but maybe this tree looks a bit too cheerful – as if he’s living near a brewery, instead of walking about in some dark forest.

Hey Bart, what did you do with the merry and Pippin models that came in the set?

And I hope you'll make an article on this bad boy :)
