Post subject: | Lothlorien WIP: Galadhrim Preview (14/04/11 pic heavy) |
Some final images of some elves for my lothlorien project (Building a Lothlorien 1000 Pts army). I used upholstery nails for the shields but will be casting some galadhrim shields for them when my stuff arrives in the post Any comments and suggesetions are welcome!! I'll be re-basing them (when i get some static grass). My paint scheme (and blog post) can be found here at Pippin's Window |

Very nice work and ambitious project. the painting is high quality although I don't think the shields fit in with the models. |

Thanks very much why do you say ambitious? Its a WoTR army and its no longer going to be an all metal project (as the metals are no longer available) going to use Galadhrim plastic warriors for the rest of my army so shouldn't cost me a fortune . about the shields, i agree, will be replacing them with the Galadhrim shields |

Painting a Wotr army on your highest quality is ambitious to me Oke, nice that you are replacing the shields I think they will look much betetr then. |

i like the shields! they r nice - only thing that i tought - is it possible to use a 2handed while carrying a shield. But for the rest good work. Maybe u should try some freehand on those shields to make them more detailled |

@ hero of gondor: Ah ok now i understand yh as i've stated on my other thread (introducing my blog) im' a bit of a perfectionist. @ garmenhord: Technially glaives are not considered 2-handed, but they have been modelled as such(another GW bright idea) , if you look closely i have modified them so that the glaives are one-handed - it looks clearer in the first pic with 2 elves on the far right , and yes the shiedls are a bit boring so they are getting replaced to look a bit more interesting. the replaced sheilds will be copy-casted galadhrim warrior shields (using brown stuff and instant mold), i'll aslo be doing this to all of my galadhrim warriors, goign to conver them all to on-handed glaives with shields (including the spear-elves, i'm making a full WYSIWUG army i.e the model will show the wargear on the model that the data sheets say they have in my battle!) its gonna be fun casting new glaives and shields |

The shields might not fit that well but the cloack colour looks really effective with the armor, I reckon. Great effort. |

Ok some pics of my progress!! I've got round to converting a box of galadhrim elves (exc. the archers) to all yield one-handed glaives and shields. The original box provides 8 of each warrior armed with spear and shield and 8 armed with 2-handed glaives. I used some stuff the japanease re-branded, most commonly known as Instant mold, and usign brown putty proved to be a success! If your interested i've included a full guide to how i did this on my blog! The pictures are bigger there too! Pippin's window: Phase 1: Convert the Masses! The casting supplies and two casted shields: The results!! Enjoy! |

These conversions look fantastic - and the shields came out brilliantly - well done Can't wait to see them painted up. The details on your blog were really useful too - might try this myself one day. |

Thanks for the kind words and encouragment! Another last final photo of the 2 companies (reminder: 1 used to be wielding 2-handed glaives, 1 used to be weidling spear and shields) |

Mmm on another forum someone meantioned that the guy waving his sword (and shield) in the air looks unnatural any thoughts? If i can't leave him as is i may consider cutting the arm off and re-positioning, though i'm wary to do this as i've never done this before The elf in question! |

the arm might indeed need some re-positioning. I have no experience with that myself. Don't they use "pinning" or something? for things like that? |

garmenhord wrote: the arm might indeed need some re-positioning. I have no experience with that myself. Don't they use "pinning" or something? for things like that? Pinning is not necessary but yes they can pin them, it depends mostly on how much plastic is lost, as the wire/pin will be used to suspend the arm and then green stuff attched to the wire to scuplt the new shoulder that would mostly likely have to be hacked to bits. I was hoping to get away with just cutting the arm off and then rotating it to point down, looking at the arm i doubt i'd be able to do that and i'll have have pin and sculpt with GS. bah was hoping not to do any sculpting for a while Edit: the shoulder has been lost so looks like i'll have to scuplt the shoulder, not much though only the cloth bit - i was worried i would have to re-sculpt the shoulder armour which is harder but don't need to |

OK a question... I'm not a keen fan on the skirt mail of the galadhrim warriors... should i carve off the 'dragon scale' type mail off the Galadhrim and replace with GS sculpted mail that looks like the haldir elves 'proper' mail? I've left images for reference (painted by GW). Galadhrim warriors Haldir elves |

personally I think the chainmail looks really good. If you try to convert it and you make a mistake, even a little bit, it will make the appearance of the model look worse. So, I think you should keep the chainmail. |

I do not think it would add anything but a lot of work |
