I am new to painting of the Lord of th rings miniatures and am addicted to it, I currently painted the Balrog miniature and am now painting Gandalf to go with it, once they are both complete I will try to make the terrain to show them on and will post more pics as I go.
Ok here are some pics of my first attempt to paint the Balrog.

Very good for a newbie... Althought you should add codex grey to balrog's skin....

Why? It's a creature of Shadow. You don't get grey shadows. :P

Very good work there Arwin, inspired choice to tackle such an imposing miniature for starters.

I suggest to use more gradient between two colors. In this case between the yellow and the orange. At the ends you should paint a little bit darker orange. There is a lot of great work on coolminiornot.com. Check this out.

Anyway, its well done.

Very nice paint job. I personally like the dark black and the hints of red throughout. Very nice!

Great work 8) But seriously you can't be a total beginner, have you done any painting at all before?

Thanks for all the feedback it's great, I have looked at other web pages and the next one I will paint differently, this one I just followed the instructions from the best of White Dwarf magazine as best I could.
As for painting before no not really, a little bit of ceramics when I was a teenager but that was long ago. :galadriel:

Not bad at all although you've fallen into the classic trap of painting the flame colours backwards (should be white at the source then yellow then orange as it cools) but it is a common mistake made by many including GW so we can hardly blame you for that. 8)

Yes cause fire from in to out is white then yellow then orange then red and also if you look carefully you will find sometimes a small line of blue...

Well, the imporant thing is to make it look nice, not necessarily realistic. I think that both look great! :D

Nice painting on the balrog. I didn't notice the flame thing at first.. Good hint! i should pay attention to that when i paint my berserkers torches

The Firefighter has spoken! I remember this advice from many years ago on the last alliance and whilst I have never done a balrog, I have it in mind whenever I paint fire effects. That said, great paintjob and I for one still havent had the courage to paint the balrog yet, or buy it for that matter!

Personally, I think that not as much of the white should be showing. Less makes it look more evil. Just my opinion... :)
