Post subject: | Wah Wing's WIP - So it Begins... |
Well, I think it's about time I start one of these WIP pages. It'll help keep me on track through the coming school year. Ah Man! School. Oh Well. Senior year! Anyway, I think I'll start where it matters most right now: Isengard and Rohan. For my Senior Project, I have planned to make Helm's Deep. For those of you who don't know what this project is, it is some project that shows you've learned skills and how it can help others. It's a requirement for Seniors to graduate High School. How does making Helm's Deep help others? I'm tying it in to the literature of the books to get kids to read them. Enough with the rambling, so here are the first mini's to go towards the project: The leaders of the forces. Saruman: Here's the back in a different lighting. The sun is never consistent. One minute its bright. The next there's a shadow. :| I still need to paint the eyes and touch up on his staff. Not so sure about the horse. Does it look ok? I didn't like the black horse GW shows so chose this color. Theoden: There's one part on his shoulder armour that got hit by some grey so need to touch that up too. Hope to get some more updates soon! Comments welcome! Go light on the criticism, though. I still consider myself an apprentice next to the masters. |

Saruman is looking pretty good! His horse appears a bit "chalky" though. I would use a wash on the horse to help smooth it all out. Even a watered down wash would help eliminate that chalky look. Theoden is also looking very good! |

The details on theoden are excellent, Saruman himself is well done too. I'd like to see the finished result. |

Good luck with building Helms Deep. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help out. The Senior Project sounds like something my son will be doing next year when he starts senior school - it has to be 'creative', 'active' and provide a 'service to the community.' As a part of the project, perhaps you could bring the table along to a gaming convention and present a game, thereby assisting the wargaming community and also bringing the books to the attention of the younger players. |

Haha, that sounds an awful lot like the SACE research project. I am completing my last year of school too. Only five weeks left!! Looking forward to the next instalment of this 'project' |

Thanks guys! The encouragement really helps. I honestly don't know where to begin. Should I start with the Hornburg? Then tackle the rest of the fortress? I would like to follow Onyx's tutorial but, I don't have the famous Hirst Arts Blocks. I do have Foam board and Foam core, though. Which would be easier to work with, for sculpting stone purposes? (if that makes any sense). Well, thought I'd add another update at least on the model side of the project. Here are Gamling and Eowyn: Sorry for the bad pics. I'll have to retake them some day. Those were a while ago. I think that Gamling is by far the best model I've painted with Theoden in 2nd just 'cause of the little grey spot on the king's armour. Anyway... Thanks again for the kind comments. I'll try to finish up Saruman with those finishing touches and also his base. I found the Escape from Orthanc box and so will try to paint the foot model of Saruman as well. Till next time! |

(if that makes any sense) Yes, it makes perfect sense. It will take me a year to finish my Helms deep with HA blocks.Time, money and space are working against me on this one. Foam core is easy to work with but pink foam is very easy to engrave. I would use this plan http://www.freewebs.com/playtable/ and pink foam. Start with the gate and curtain wall or the deeping wall in case you run out of time or money. Then at least you will have a presentable project if you must scale back. Not to mention that is what you are the most likely to game. I made a deeping wall to match my GW Helms deep model from HA blocks. The Inter keep is taking much longer. |

I need to check my minis again. I think the last I checked, I had over 200 Uruk-hai. Many of which have yet to be painted. So, time to get cranking! Hopefully more pictures soon. Quick question. I use Free Webs to upload my pictures to, but am running out of space to store them. Is there a place that has a ton of space for pictures and the like? Preferably free? Thanks! |

www.photobucket.com is my favourite. Free and an infinite amount of space, just upload your images and then copy and paste the automatically generated IMG tag link into your posts. |

Thought I'd add some more pics on. Here is my current army for Isengard. I didn't have my troll done so he's not in the pictures. The whole army: The Fighting Uruk-hai: Saruman leading Berserkers: Warg Riders and Saruman: Engineers: Vrashku and Scouts w/bows: Isengard Orcs: Ugluk and his Scouts: Lurtz (doesn't this look familiar?): A WIP objective marker: Uruk-hai Shaman: Converted Captain: Converted Banner Carrier: Converted Hornblower: In War of the Ring, can you substitute a Hornblower for the Drummer? Dying Boromir to add to the Scout formation: And then there's the troll, but no pics of him yet. Quite the army to set up for a picture! I'll get pictures of the Defenders soon, and, hopefully, start on the actual project of building the fortress. Till next time! |
