Hello everyone Welcome to my WIP thread! After having a break from the hobby for about a year and a half, I decided to get back into it. So, all the models I had (not great paintjobs ) went into the Dettol and were all stripped. So basically, I'm starting afresh I have quite a lot of models, I've a load of goblins, some galadhrim, uruk-hai, rohan, a lot of hero models and some monsters like cave trolls, a cave drake and a balrog There's no point posting pictures of them all, as i'm sure you all know what they look like without paint, so it'd just be a waste of space. Anyway, the main point of this is to track my progress and keep me motivated I'm going into a tough exam year next year, so I'll be quite busy But I hope to keep a constant (if slow) pace of painting. So just a warning, this thread won't be updated everyday I do have big plans for the future in terms of my hobby, as I'm just coming to the end of putting together a booklet of army lists for the Forces of Evil and another one for the Forces of Good. They have army lists that I would like to collect, because before GW drop the lotr, I'd like to have a good few armies (small ones) of most of the main factions that appeal to me. Most of the armies are 500pts SBG (old LOME rules, because I don't really game much, more intersted in painting and display, so I haven't really checked out warbands), but some are more, and they're primarily for display on a themed base But enough rambling, or I'll just bore you all Here's my workspace, wher the magic happens! (hopefully ) I constructed the painting station out of spare pieces of mdf. And here are the first new purchases! I decided now to invest in some good brushes, as good brushes are key to painting good models. The blue handled brush is not a GW brush. It's size 0000 and it'll be my designated 'faces' brush. The small drybrush will be for models. The medium drybrush for bases. The detail and fine detail will be my main brushes, doing the majority of painting and highlighting. My other detail brush that I have will be a designated 'wash' brush, and I've a spare fine detail one. Looking good so far The Leadbelcher was the match for Boltgun Metal on the conversion chart, which I'll use to basecoat the metal parts on my models, because if I did that with Chainmail, it takes a load of washes to dull it down I've started work on a warrior of Numenor, first model to be painted in a year and a half It's going good though, I'll get pictures up later And if you read through all that, well done! Sorry for the long post, but needed to give the 'introduction'. Anyway, I hope this thread will keep your interest. |

Quote: I'm hyper-impressed by your ultra clean workspace Thanks! lets hope it stays that clean Aaaaaaand..... here's the first update! I've roughly done the base, and I'm finished the face on this warrior of Numenor. I've a couple more of these, and a few high elves, so if they all go well I'll probably use them in a diorama with Sauron. I'm super happy with how the face turned out, this is the first model I've painted in over a year and a half, and it's the best face I've ever done You can't really see the highlights, but they're there! I hope the picture is alright, I've been fiddling around with different set ups for taking the pictures, and I'm only using Photobucket for minor corrections. I also hope its not too big, as I'm using the 640 width suggested. Comments (and criticism) welcomed! |

Time for another update I've finished the armour, the cloak and the tunic. I'm extremely happy with it all Now, it seems to be taking aaaaages, but that is because I really want all my minis looking the best that I can make them, so I'm taking my time You'll notice on the cloak that the highlights are very subtle. You mightn't even think there are highlights on the cloak in that picture but they are there, and they look great in real life I used a new technique that I'd never used before, I think it's called wetbrushing. I picked it up from an article over at TLA I used to just do extreme (and unrealistic looking) highlights, but I much prefer this subtle blending Hope you do too! Anyway, he's almost done, the hair and brown leather has to be highlighted, then the under-tunic thing has to be done after that, the shield, then he's done Thanks for all the compliments by the way, really appreciated! |

Very good. I notice the highlights on the cloak, but it took a second, and only after I notice that you said you finished the cloak. Subtlety can be a good thing, as you say, it looks realistic. Good work |

Quote: Good work Thanks In my opinion, especially seeing it first hand, the subtle blending looks much better than just lines of lighter colour, that clearly stick out anyway, that's just what I think |

Well, he's finally finished! The first model I've painted since about january '11! I'm really really happy with it Again, the pictures aren't the best, but I hope you get the gist Also, I'll be using him in a diorama of the Battle of the Last Alliance....sometime And another purchase 'Doombull Brown', the replacement of 'Dark Flesh', which I'm using for the base edges I'll also be posting this in the painting challenge thread, but here's the proof of my entry Keep checking this WIP out for updates Thanks for all the comments guys |

Well here's an update on Frodo Very happy with how he's progressing Personally I love the cloak The highlights are easier to notice than on the darker Numenorean cloak, so I think that's good Anyway, I'll keep the updates coming. Thanks again for all the comments |
