Slightly different way to Dags' instruction but you have to use initiative I think in regards to what materials you have lying around.... |

Awesome!!! This is one of those projects I think many of us want to tackle, and his guide is probably my favorite out there as well. Keep us posted. |

When are you cutting out the steps? I seem to remember Dag doing those before the broken arches, as the arches have to stand on the steps, so you can test fit before gluing permanently. |

The steps are going to be continuous. If you look at last pic ull see where the Buttress is notched out to sit on top of the steps, this will add strength |

This is great to see and very timely as of course Weathertop features in the Hobbit. I think it is always referred to as Amon Sul (Hill of the Wind) in the LoTR movies but of course we fans know it as Weathertop. I am thinking of tackling this using some Hirst blocks and am really looking forward to your take on the project. I was wondering for example if there is any advantage of making it in two half hills? In the movie Jackson re-used the ruins in parts in several different scenes and one could conceivably do that with a Weathertop piece. However one whole piece does seem to be more attractive. I hope you get more days off soon and many thanks for posting your WIP. |

Interesting the mention of using Hirst Art blocks, my next project will be doing just that, making Weathertop with Hirst Art blocks where applicable. |

Someone else around here did Weathertop with Hirst blocks a while back. It came out looking good though obviously not as close to the film version as you can get with custom cut pieces. Absolutely recognizable, awesome looking and appeared to be a great play area none the less though, so please don't take that as a criticism of the choice of using the cast blocks. |

Totally understand what you mean, I wouldn't make the entire piece out of HA blocks, just in places. |
