Hello and welcome to my attempt at painting the fantastic EFGT set. Feedback and tips very much welcomed! So far I've painted up the all of the normal Goblins, the Goblin King, Goblin Captain and Grinnah. The Goblin King with flash on. The Goblin King with flash off. Some Goblins. I started with Rakarth Flesh followed with a Reikland Fleshshade wash, I then hilighted with Palid Wych Flesh and covered the warts and eyes with a little Crimson Carroburg. What do you think? Next on the painting table are the two wizards... |

A darker tone than I have seen for the goblins. I must admit that I like it. |

I like the darker skin, it makes them feel far more dirty and goblin-like. |

Thanks guys! I looked around at a few tutorials before painting these to get an idea of how I wanted them. Most people go with a red wash and then highlight up but I liked the way reikland wash showed them a bit more brown as I felt it looked more like how they are in the film. |

Yeah, you've definitely managed to capture their dirty brown-ness from the film. Looks really nice, makes me want to re-assess my own goblin paint scheme, haha. |

Looking good! I look forward to see how you handle the dwarfs! Try glazing the eyes with Bloodletter and then a little dot of black. Will make em look really good! |

Fresh off the painting table, Radagast the Brown! Great miniature with loads of detail and character. If plastic can look this good, why on earth do we need finecast? For the paint scheme I pretty much followed a tutorial by 'mrwatchingpaintdry' on youtube. It was a bit vague at times so towards the end I just made do. I didn't paint bird poo in his hair but I may go back to it if I find a good method p.s Don't forget to clean up mold lines before painting, like I did... D'oh! |

Amazing Radagast! He is going to be the last figure I paint from EFGT (2 left Bofur, Radagast and 15 gobos) |

I completely agree, I've just been cleaning up and assembling the 13 dwarves today and love the figures more and more as I spend time with them. The likenesses to the actors are staggering (esp. Dwalin, Balin, Thorin, Kili, Bifur and Nori) and the detail is simply amazing, I'd be more than happy with an all plastic range now. Anyhoo, onto your minis - those goblins look absolutely fantastic! I think the original Weta designs are pale white/cream like the GW paint scheme and it's the colour grading of the movie that gives them that muddy brown look but I far, far prefer this darker colour scheme and these are up there with the best Misty Mountians goblins I've seen. I'll certainly be trying to emulate this colour scheme when I finally get around to my Goblin Town army (probably about this time next year sadly!). Keep up the good work! |

Thanks again everyone. Gandalf is now finished! Despite looking quite simple I found him a little tricky to paint. Took me a few attempts to get the cloak highlights to work and I'm still not that happy with them, but never mind. My painting is improving and I'm sure this won't be the last Gandalf I paint. Anyway I think he's good enough for now Now, who to paint next... |

The radagast is amongst the best I have ever seen painted especially with the face, the face it so good it looks like a real person... Perfection |

Dwalin is done! He painted up pretty quick and without too much trouble. He's pretty damn huge for a dwarf standing a head taller than many of his comrades and not all that far off the wizards. What a badass! Undercoated Basecoated First stage of Highlights Finished! Close up Ectreme close up |

You've really captured his grittiness as a veteran fighter in his face. |

We're really motoring now, Ori and Oin are done! Ori Oin Ori was lacking in detail a bit so was a tricky one to paint. Oin however was a real treat and I think it's one of my favourites so far. |

Wow, just wow. I think Ori looks a bit dusty but the rest are all the best iterations I have seen of their respective modes. Dwalin and Radagast especially... Good job, I hope I do half as good job on my EFGT! VG |

Thank you very much, VictoryGin, High praise indeed! No updates this time (though Bombur is all but finished) but just wanted to say I had my first go of the game yesterday The other-half kindly indulged me and we played the Wizards in the Dark scenario (the one that comes on the back of Radagast's stat sheet) I took control of Gandalf and Radagast and she played as the mischeivous Goblins. We picked up the rules very quickly and had a really fun game with the Wizards having it all their own way at the start, succefully searching both platforms without too much trouble. But alas only 6" or so from escaping the board Radagast was overcome by the Goblin horde and fell and the mission was lost Really impressed with the simplicity and ease of the ruleset and looking forward to playing again. Now back to the painting table... |

Bombur is complete! Pretty chuffed with him. I have also finished Fili but he's not taking too kindly to the camera at the moment. Not sure if it's bad painting or bad photography yet... |
