I have been vying for an evil WOTR force for some time. It has to be dynamic and unpredictable. I therefore decided to try out Angmar. My first step was to grab some cave trolls to participate in Buhrdur's Warband, and of course they only come in three (technically four I guess) variants, so I thought of ways to convert them. My first step was to sculpt a fur cloak onto the basic 'hammer-wielding' troll, in order to give him a little bit of ... fashion-sense. Attachment: IMG_20131024_224521.jpg As you can see in this photo below, I've done some work on repositioning the second troll's limbs in a more unusual manner. I'm not a pro with green stuff, as you can see, but it's aiming to be a loose filler, as you will understand later in this post. I was quite difficult to tweak the troll to hold the hammer two-handed - I had to cut both at the wrist and elbow joints in order to rotate the arms in a pleasing fashion. Attachment: IMG_20131024_224504.jpg My next step on having repositioned his limbs was to give him a cloak of his own. I used a lot of green stuff! Unfortunately I failed to have a photo taken before undercoating, but here is a good one of the two converts facing off with the Prince of Mirkwood: Attachment: IMG_20131025_103452.jpg

I've jumped into a second comment in order to show the paint work that I've done on this pair. I endeavoured to paint both in a similar fashion. Partially because having trolls with multicoloured cloaks might make a odd look on the battlefield, but also because in reality the trolls would probably have only had access to similar animals from which to make their coats... They look great! Wonderful conversions, it's really inspiring I'd love to see them fully painted. They'd certainly look cool and unique on the battlefield. I almost want to send my Knights of Rivendell and Elrond charging at them Anyway, keep up the great work |

@Manadur: That's Legolas from the Heroes of the West box set, initially released in the Return of the King's first wave of minis back in 2003. You should be able to find him pretty easily on eBay, if not I think I have a couple lying around that I might put up on my trade thread. But that point aside, great work Ellorindar! I like how the fur has come out, it definitely adds a nice touch to the trolls. You should pick up Buhrdur and have him leading them |

Good day all! Unfortunately I was delayed in updating this WIP, however, with the Christmas holidays I am now free to do as I please. As you can see below, post-undercoat: Attachment: IMG_20131116_085333.jpg I always try to opt for a grey undercoat rather than black, as I find the colours 'pop' a little more when they aren't struggling against the darkest of undercoats. As you can also see, I have added a little base decoration, which is more noticeable here: Attachment: IMG_20131116_174552.jpg Also, unfortunately as you might have noticed, Buhrdur's right arm is not the stock arm that comes with the figure, it is in fact an Isengard troll's arm. However, I actually think it works just as well |

And I almost forgot! A photo, taken today, of Buhrdur with his troll folk, or torog drĂșnos in Sindarin, or Olog-hai in the Black speech. Attachment: IMG_20131220_112138.jpg

And thusly are my troll troops complete. I guess I am technically missing the plastic moria troll with hammer, but since it's just variation of the spear version I don't feel too guilty Attachment: IMG_20131231_175248.jpg Attachment: IMG_20131231_185906.jpg

Those Trolls look very nice, you've put in a lot of effort and reaped the rewards - awesome looking tabletop pieces, well done and I love WEREWOLVES. I do wish you didn't have to log in to see the pics though. |
