Hello!

I have been gaming and painting since 2000. I started with LOTR SBG when it was released, and I was hooked. I have been playing on and off since, mainly focused on Warhammer. I have always been pulled back to LOTR, due to the superb miniatures, and a nostalgia to all things Tolkien.

Some years ago I repainted a lot of my collection and started searching for the older LOTR models. Over time, I have collected a fair few models, but too few of them have gotten a real paint job.

This blog will follow my progress of painting my favourite models, and act as a motivator to get old an unfinished projects finished. There will be both miniatures and terrain projects over time. In addition, I will try to play through the journey books and lots of the older scenarios from FOTR, TTT and RTK.

To start things of, some painted miniatures:

Frodo and Gollum

Gandalf and the hobbits

Merry and Pippin

Ugluk

Great work so far. I really like the yellow on Ugluk's armour, it contrasts really well with the rest of the model.

Awesome job getting back into the hobby. I personally know how hard it can be to get back into things.

Thanks for the comments, guys :)

The Rohan warriors were actually super easy to paint. I have posted a painting guide in the GBHL facebook group. The cloaks are painted with Caliban Green over a black undercoat, Badab Black wash, highlight with Caliban Green mixed with white.

I agree with the others, a great start into the year! Very clean painting, I especially like the Rohirrim, the brown shields look great.

And now it is time for Gandalf's adversary; the Balrog!

The Balrog was first undercoated black, then the fiery areas were ainted white. The flames were built up from washes and glazes of yellow and orange up to a dark red. The skin was drybrushed grey. The wings were drybrushed steel legion drab and washed with agrax earthshade.

Is time for another update! I'm attending a local tournament this weekend, and I'm in need of some magic support for my Uruk-hai army. Enter the shaman!

This guy is just cant wait to cast a channeled Fury.

The picture didn't turn out as good as I had hoped, I'lll try to fix it.

Both Balrog and shaman look very nice. I also like the consistent basing throughout, that really helps tie a collection together.

So that all of the newly painted miniatures out of the way.

The next items of the painting desk is the classic Haldir and metal Wood Elves with bow. These are at the moment just undercoated black. Hopefully I will finish these sometime during next week.

A mounted Ringwraith is also in the works. This guy has gotten a bit more painting on him, and I will try to finish him along with the wood elves.

Now, on to terrain.

Last autumn I aso built a foldable 4x4 gaming board currently avaiting a gaming mat from DeepCut Studio. I have quite a good selection of terrain for the board, and have plans for some houses and maybe a hobbit hole. The one thing I am missing is a river. After some searching I found a company that sold laser cut terrain templates. They also make river sections, so it was a perfect fit.

Image

I will build up the banks with some styrofoam and gravel. Some paint and and water effects will then do the rest of the business. Pictures of the progress will follow.

My other terrain project is the ruins of Weathertop. This is one of my favourite scenes from the film, and I have wanted to build the ruins for some time. I started with the basic guidelines found in the Fellowship of the Ring Journeybook. I have seen other skilled modellers making excellent versions of it. My own is a bit easier and not as elaborate, but will maybe be easier to game on. We will see. Current status is below:

That's it for now!
