I could not have been more surprised to find that that Captain Mainwaring's Home Guard has made it to the war games table, but I love the sculpts and I am glad they did!

As I love the series and am frankly attached to the characters, I don't think I could cope with any of them getting killed, so I would be a bit nervous to field them in a game where they could be in danger, but I would really like to own the miniatures.

I do like the idea of a Dad's Army game with cards and events that they could be used in, with different missions ranging from unexploaded bombs to capturing German prisoners of war. It could also have added hazards like Pike getting his head stuck in the railings, or members of the platoon getting distracted by Mrs Fox etc!

The comedy series is still enormously popular in the U.K. and I would encourage anyone who has not seen it to give it a try. It first started in 1968 and is still hugely popular. It is presently being broad cast on radio 4. The whole show is peculiarly British and I could not imagine anything remotely similar being made anywhere else.

I sent the following message to Warlord Games today:

"I was delighted to see on Beasts of War that you Warlord Games have released a “Dad’s Army” platoon. I have not played Bolt Action personally but I have to say that I love the miniatures and plan to buy them as entertaining pieces in their own right. I e-mailed the rest of my gaming group images of the miniatures and the reaction has been entirely enthusiastic.

In fact it has been suggested that a small spin off game of an amusing nature may well be possible. I do like the idea of a Dad's Army game with cards and events that they could be used in, with different missions ranging from unexploded bombs to capturing German prisoners of war. It could also have added hazards like Pike getting his head stuck in the railings, or members of the platoon getting distracted by Mrs Fox etc.! We also like the idea that they could be pitted against (in a non lethal way) against the likes of Herr Flick. Leutnant Gruber of “Allo, Allo” fame. A Vicky Michelle model along wit the French resistance also seems particularly appealing.

Its always great to see marvellous products.".

You could mix the Foundry minis with the Warlords to get the whole shebang.

On a whim I started watching this series. What a fantastically funny show! I never would have known it existed if not for this post linking the Warlord Games figures. Thanks!

The sculpt for Sgt Johnson is superb. They have captured John LeMessurier's expression perfectly.

I love the idea and the quality of these figures. Aside from some jolly fine Home Guard action, they make ideal figures for A Very British Civil War.
