I just noticed that the rules and scenarios for the big WotR tourney this Saturday are up and I didn't see any other threads mentioning it so...

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte ... =18500040a

I thought some interesting things in there,

For one, Battlehosts is apparently not allowed. They just specify the main rulebook for army creation.

The first scenario also allows free Will of Iron rolls to any heroes that still have might.
The second scenario allows you to resurrect one non-spell casting hero after he dies, and provides even more bonus victory points for killing enemy spellcasters.

Interesting that they seem to be trying to push players away from magic in the game. Possibly they recognize that it's too powerful?

They also seem to be trying to de-emphasize monsters and encourage more troops.

I presume this only for Americans and not in the UK, then

Ah, well, it also seems like they do not want the Undying to be used, since his rule is made even less effectual.

Entirely possible it's just the U.S.

I've never been involved in a tournament before so I didn't know how likely that was.

and yeah, pretty much hoses the undying in that first scenario.

'Ard Boyz is strictly US. I'm playing in it tomorrow. The Undying is definitely questionable for the first scenario, and they're making you pay a price for Magic.... We'll see how it goes!

Tried the first scenario last night. I quite liked the free 'Will of Iron'; the stipulation that you needed to have 1 point of Might made one think a bit more about spending Might.

I used a four Wraisth army against elvess and the result was that more Mordor's magic was used on its own units; Terror got cast rather than Sunder Spirit; Strength through Corruption got cast on one's own units rather than the opponent's units. Pall of Night was rare.

Overall I liked it a lot.

Wrt to the Undying, remember the tournaments are three scenarios long. So the Undying is still useful; and given how Wraiths use up their one point of Might quite quickly I still think he is far from useless.
