I have decided now to start making terrain myself, rather than getting the normal ruins. I have eight 2" by 2" boards, cut by moi, to use. I need inspiration and techniques to build something.

Any ideas?

It may help if you could give us some extra info. Such as what armies do you play and what style of terrain you want. Some basic outlines would mean that we could help you a lot more.

Well first of all you need to decide what kind of board it is. Are you going to go for a city board, open plains, hills, forest, a river in the middle etc..? Then your next objective would be to say who it is for. For example mine Osgiliath board is a half between city and hilly landscape on the otherside of the river. Obviously this is Gondor, but different races have different architecture. This site is great for inspiration if your looking for idea's - http://www.lotrscenerybuilder.org/index.php

I play Angmar and Fallen Realms, and my brother uses Gondor and Elves. So I'm fairly split for choice. I was tempted to do a fortified town with forest on four boards and on the other do tents of Harad and destroys buildings.

Thanks for the link. I'll look at it.

For your Angmar you could do a sort of ghost style town like this: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte ... ue&start=3
Your ideas sound good though. 8)

So... I'm thinking about those 'Accursed Dimlokhi', and I have decided. At the back, built buildings without any sign of dereliction. Forward, a forest and destroyed buildings. Then onto the other half. A town of Hardrim buildings, closer ones ruined and covered with spiders' webs, like in the GW Link. Then a makeshift camp styled of the Dunedain Ranger Camp in R-J Rotwk, only with plenty cream style tents.

That sounds pretty cool! You're going to have to put up some pix when you're done!
