Hey guys, For a moria army, what would you suggest for a competitive 1500pt tournament? How many regular goblin warriors should I have (how many formations of how many warriors?) Would you include goblin shooting, and if so, how much? Should I be better off with a few high powered rares (such as a stone giant with a troll) or multiple small trolls? I could field 4 trolls and I have a stand-in miniature that looks like a stone giant. I'm thinking of the two special characters, the Beastcaller and Dubruz. Perhaps some nazgûl allies (or corsair crossbowmen).? |

It all really depends on how you define competitive. I think that a good ringwraith list will crush most other armies. However there are lots of good Moria builds. A list consisting of a stone giant for each goblin unit is good. A goblin horde with Durburz, Druzhag, and Khamul is even better. You will probably have points left over for other heroes. Goblin shooting can be great, as gobbos are cheap. It just depends on your playstyle. You can take regular gobbos for points efficiency. You can get shooty gobbos to do more damage. You can go for Prowlers for killing power. Or you can play somewhat defensively by taking Gundabad blackshields. |

I wouldn't take many Goblin archers, as they only have a range on 18in; you'll probably only get a maximum of two shooting phases to shoot. Once they're in combat the Goblin archers' defence 3 will be the death of them. I would take loads of Goblins formations with shields. Perhaps five six-company formations? And some upgrades too. Looking at their rules and points cost, Stone Giants are amazing. If you have a suitable model, use it! |

I should take warg packs and spiders as common formations and then Gunbadad blackshields as rare formation and Druzhag and the bestcaller as epic heros. |

Ok, how about this? 2x moria goblins 6 companies, captain, shields 2x moria goblins 2 companies, bows stone giant 1x gundabad blackshields (9 companies), drums, captain 2x cave troll Dubrûz, Drûzhag Ringwraith ally |

I really like, and I'm struggling to find a flaw with it. Initially I though there were too few formations, but I'm not so sure now. You've got a good selection of heroes, a solid formation (the Gundabad Blackshields) for the core of your army, a few monsters to guard your flanks... it's great! |

If I have the following layout for a formation (every number is a company with the 1's being the front) 111 222 333 and the 1's are companies touching the enemy... Do 3's provide support? Therefore if all the 1's were in contact with the enemy, would I roll 8+8+8+2+2+2+2+2+2 = 36 dice (if we suppose the frontline gobbos don't die)? |

Yes, the 3s support. Every company in a formation that is in combat fights. If they are in base to base with the enemy then they attack directly. Otherwise they support. I would drop the Goblin captains from all of the units in your list. They will die horrible deaths in duels and should be avoided. Replace them with more gobbos and ringwraiths. Hero of Gondor's advice about wargs and spiders is sound. However, I just love to take lots of gobbos. |

If I remove some captains (and therefore some might and heroic charges), how many companies of spiders should I get? I'll be using some warhammer O&G spiders without riders to "count as" Moria giant spiders. So I could easily and cheaply obtain those! |
