Balanced armies
Thanks to the inspired genius of Jervis Johnson and his ‘Throne of Skull’ tournament rules I thought about how to ‘balance’ games amongst my small group of fellow WoTR players.
The elegant device that Jervis used was to make ‘favourite army’ the source of 25% of the maximum points a player could gain in a 5 day tournament.
So here is what I came up with.
The favourite army in a scratch game gains 5 victory points for the purpose of determining victory in a game of ‘The High Ground’; ‘Seize the Prize’ or ‘Field of Swords’.
Players may mutually agree which army is the favoured one beforehand. If there is disagreement then following is used to determine which is the favourite army:
For each Epic Hero you get 1 point; if the Epic Hero cost over 100 points than it gets you 2 points.
Each Epic Hero Spell Caster gets you 1 point per level of mastery.
If Epic Heroes or formations from a different age are combined in the same army then you get 10 points.
The army with the least points is the favourite army.

Don't quite understand how this works....
From what I understand, this could just be your favourite army in one.
Thydran wolfsbane-50 points
5x1 Uruk-hai Warband-175 points
5x1 Uruk-hai Phalanx-175 points
5x1 Dunlending warriors-100 points
Total:500 and only 1 point
I don't think I am right but could you kinda explain it slightly more thouroughly.

The rules were off the top of my head and there is a far easier method: Discuss the likely armies beforehand!!!!!
We almost put ourselves off the game by having unlimited troop choice; and after over of year of facing 4+ Ringwraiths or Rhadaghast/Galadriel/Elrond etc. It got VERY stale.
Now we've moved to this rule of thumb for 1500 pt battles.
No more than two Epic Heroes per army. In the case of Evil then if Khamul is chosen you may not choose another Ringwraith.
This has lead to more use of Heroes (such as Orc and Goblin shaman) and more use of Legendary formations (the price of which, IMHO, GW has got right).
