Epic Cowardice can be called at the beginning of the Fight Phase.
So can a Heroic/Epic Duel.

So can Epic Cowardice automatically be used to avoid the Heroic duel, if called?
Or would be a case of both heroes declaring their intention and then dicing off to see who goes first?

The latter. There is nothing suggesting that EC changes the timing rules, so if both players want to call an action at the start of the phase they have to dice off to see who goes first.

So you might aswell call a Heroic Combat, fight that first and then not fight the duel if you don't want to charge that formation.

Scott, I find this league FAQ drawn up by Hellfury to be pretty helpful if you want a more generalised answer to these timing issues:

www.scribd.com/doc/15100338/WotR-Escala ... ue-FAQ-v11

Cheers

Google tells me this should work:
http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachmen ... 1271680500

It does for me anyway. I don't think it is quite the same but has the table laid out.

If not, then no sorry.

After much back and forth between us I finally realized that Hellebore and I agreed on timing issues, but I have to be honest, found his presentation very confusing, all the talk of interrupting and such, I never could exactly follow that table.
