Does the bane special rule apply to Heroic Duels?

Say for example Elrond is with a High Elf Regiment. The company he has joined does not benefit from his orcbane special rule, so they do not get +1 to hit against orc formations. The formation charges a Mordor Orc Warband and Elrond calls a Heroic Duel against an Orc Captain in the command company.

Does Elrond get +1 on his die roll against the Orc Captain's roll since he has the orcbane special rule?

Thanks.

Page 69 of the WoTR rulebook, box in the bottom right corner: heroes and their company benefit from all special rules that either of them have, so Elrond's company gets the Orcbane special rule, and Elrond benefits from any special rules the company might have that he does not.

No +1 to heroic duels from Orcbane, as it is not a roll to hit.

The previous answer incorrect regarding heroes and special abilities.

Heroes indeed gain the benefit of any special rules in the formation they join but not vice versa:

p. 69 says:

"Likewise, a company can find itself joined by an Epic hero who has one or more special rules. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, an Epic Hero's special rules are not shared by companies in the formation he has joined"
(My emphasis)

This is clarified and confirmed in the official FAQ/errata. The only ability that a hero confers to his formation is Terror. So why do heroes such as Elrond and Balin and Thryden have these bane rules and pathfinder rules if the don't actually do anything? The 1.0/1.1 version of the official FAQ said that this was for some future expansion to the system (which has never materialised).

The other part is correct, in answer to the OP: orcbane will not help a hero in a duel against an orc hero.

My gaming group has developed a house rule to update the Epic Heroes' rules to read "Bestow Terror", "Bestow Orcbane" and "Bestow Pathfinder (Master)" to address this very issue. I've posted a blog post about it last December:

http://bairwaroftheringproject.blogspot.com/2014/12/the-elven-kingdoms-unit-cost-analysis.html

http://bairwaroftheringproject.blogspot.com/2015/01/epic-hero-special-rule-applicability-to.html

Take a look and see if this is something that you think would be useful to incorporate!

Best of luck to you guys!
