Post subject: | [PAINTING] December Painting Challenge: Winter |
Hello everyone! Welcome to the thread for the December Painting Challenge! This month it's Winter themed. Rules 1. A miniature is decided upon before each monthly painting challenge. This month is a 'Special' Painting Challenge where instead of a single miniature being chosen, a theme is chosen. This month will be a winter themed challenge to coincide with the festive season. Your entries this month can be anything as long as it has a clear winter theme (this can be anything as little as having some snow on the base of your miniature or something more extreme). Also if you want to you can add a festive theme to your entry (as an example you can give a goblin a santa hat and a candy cane). If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it, as this months challenge could be open to many different alternative figures. 2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible. 3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of January 5th, 2012. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos please, this allows you to show your miniature off from front, back and each side which is more than enough. 4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills. 5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months. Good luck to all! |

Anything referring to snow, winter or Christmas. Look up last year's challenge for references. Hm, what to do? |

I re-present to everyone Sandalf. My entry from last year that I was never able to find time to paint. I Should have time to finish him this year since most of the scuplting is already done (have a little clean up to do). Should be a fun model to paint. |

Would Gundabad goblins with snow on them be eligible? |

For us southern hemisphere dwellers is it "Winter" or "Festive Season" that is the real concept (since it's well and truly summer here!) |

Haven't been in one of these for a while so I'm gonna pull my finger out and submit something. I've decided to do an 'orc christmas bell'. I'll post the proof pics when I'm finished coz I want it to be a surprise (just like secret Santa). |

Her's my entry: Rangers of the very high North. The idea is that if the Dunedain watched the remnants of Arnor, they'd certainly want to watch the Trollshaws and Gundadbad. But as it's very cold there, they'd have a "winter uniform". Proof picture: Finished Product: My first painting in years that hasn't got a wash on it, I'm quite proud of them actually. PS: I'm aware that I've submitted too many pictures, but there are 3 models instead of one, so I hope it's justified. You couldn't have a good view of them all in I entered only four. |

Nice job Telchar on the snow rangers! And nice to see the santa cart again Islestaggerholm. Will Frodo elf make an appearance? Well this comp seems pretty empty, I'm done with school for now, did my Christmas shopping, so why not try to make the deadline to this challenge! Winter is Coming... |

'The board attachment quota has been reached' Anyone know how to solve this? Do I have to upload elsewhere e.g. photobucket? Also do we have until Jan 5th for this? |

Yes we have till midnight of the 5th of January . . . otherwise I would not be able to finish my entry. |

In winter, the orcs unleash a special treat for the men of Gondor. The Orc Christmas Bell. Pulled slowly across the frozen Pelennor fields, not by reindeer, but by four lumbering dire wargs – driven forward by their unforgiving orc master, deftly wielding both reins and whip. Each toll of the bell strikes fear into the hearts of men and urges the orc hordes forward into the oncoming battle. On occasion, the bell-ringer knocks out a tune on the giant bell, and surrounding orcs can sometimes be heard joining in on orc Christmas carol classics like ‘Deck the halls with Gondorian entrails’, ‘Sar-u-man is coming to town’ or ‘O come all ye ring wraiths’. It will be a dark day for Gondor if the Ocr Christmas Bell ever reaches the walls of Minas Tirith. Though it would come in handy for Faramir’s famous tavern sing-a-longs. Details and proof pics below. Sorry for all the photos. I think the bell is an old Warhammer Skaven model – I got it cheap on Ebay. I think it fits an orc war machine theme quite nicely though. I converted Shagrat by removing the mithril shirt and replacing it with a whip I sculpted from greenstuff. I also sculpted the raised wooden platform that Shaggy is standing on and the wooden beam that extends out from the bell platform and to which the wargs are tied. I used miniature (obviously!) rope to bind the wargs to the wooden beam. It’s primitive but so are the orcs! |

Very well done Edge. Mine won't compete, I'll try to finish anyway. |
