Forgive me if this is in the wrong spot, but the latest painting challenge has got me thinking. How about having a diorama challenge that is spread across two months, like the sculpting challenge. This would set a challenge for those who love this type of thing and give others the chance for looking outside the box. It can also help us to see other work to provide more inspiration ? How does this sound ? Any thoughts ? |

I like the idea and it is something we've tried before. It was more of a terrain challenge before and it didn't really take off. Maybe 2 entries accross two challenges. |

If there was enough interest I think that's a fine idea. Certainly something i'd love to vote on! |

Maybe an anything goes diorama challenge on an annual basis? Might be able to drum up enthusiasm that way. |

Agreed Gene - I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a diorama challenge once or twice a year could work. |

In a way I would like to see this happen, but not sure that it would work out. Many people like to see dioramas but prefer to have their models on the tabletop, so it would need to be a diorama which is based off the movement trays as the main focus (but generic dioramas are encouraged). There are plenty of scenes to recreate, but it would require a bit of sculpting work to do a lot of them which is another problem for a lot of people. These things considered, I think it is a great idea and we should give it a shot, once a year would be plenty. I won't be ready to do it until February though. |

The models by no means have to be fixed to the diorama - take a look at Barbars challenge entry for last month. Awesome diorama and not limited to the one piece. All models removable and usable on the tabletop. |

I like the idea of a diorama competition very much actually! |

I would love to participate in a Diorama Challenge, but the one and two months for the painting and sculpting comps respectively aren't even enough time for me.. A Diorama challenge with a half year deadline should work for me, though, and quite some others I can imagine! |

I would love to participate in this challenge!! maybe a small two month challenge but limit the size of the diorama base like no larger than 12"L X 12"W X 24" H and have a larger scale challenge with a 6 month deadline on a base no larger than 36" X 36" X 36" but no smaller than 12"L X 12"W |

Some nice ideas here that I hope have instigated enough interest. The topics would have to be fairly broad to allow enough scope for everyone to use some figures they have in their backlog. I would imagine a title rather than a specific image, for example , To The Death could be any battle or fight you wish but Bag End gives little option. |

I think that if you want to get the best results & highest amount of people giving it a go, there should be guidelines for those who aren't quite sure but no restrictions limiting size or anything. The idea is to be creative so you don't want to hinder people. |

Obviously the deadline being considerably longer would help people participate. In fact, I might go as far as to say that if someone has already created something that hasn't been posted previously, it should be permissible without requiring the usual "proof" figure. Depends on whether this would be run within or in addition to the current competitions. |

I think the rules re. proof pics should stay in line with the other challenges. What do you guys think? |

Maybe a drawing of the plan or you must create a WIP to show the beginning and the initial stages. The finish can be left until completion so it creates the right impact and also you don't quiet give your game away. I would look to start in January for a 6 month challenge and gauge the response to see if we do a second one. |

I would look to start in January for a 6 month challenge and gauge the response to see if we do a second one. The way we dealt with proof pics with the old terrain challenge is 5 WIP pics had to be submitted at some point throughout the challenge even if they were submitted right at the end alongside the completed piece. These WIP pics had to be dated like you do with proof pics. |

OK so lets give this a go then - we'll say start date January lets use the next few weeks to decide what to do. I'll set a poll up in another thread on Monday night so from now until then lets use this thread for suggestions to put in the poll so we can decide what the first challenge will be. |

Broad categories would be better than specifics for dioramas, especially to boost participation. Gandlaf's "To the Death" idea I quite like. Also themes to fit the books and movies? Like a FoTR theme where the diorama could be anything that happened in FoTR, either book or movie. Maybe... |
