Loverly Corsairs there Red! The purples look really nice and the brown base rim really finishes off the figures (in my opinion at least).

Keep up the great work!

Hi guys, after about a month of no painting, I'm back!

I decided to make a diorama using my Gimli on Dead Uruk-Hai which I recently finally decided to open after hearing the news of it being re-released>:O.

Anyway, after some thought I decided what I would do and how and got down to business. It's all finished now, I might later decide to add some grass but still not sure whether I will or not yet.

Here is the final product:

C/C welcome as always!

Thanks,

Jake

Nice idea ;) Neat work. Only thing I'd add is an arrow and a bowstring.

Thanks Haldirs. Fan, I will be adding that this week sometime, but pics won't come for that till next week I'm afraid.

However, here is my latest miniature - Gamling

Just painted my Gamling yesterday, very pleased with the results considering it took little under 8 hours to paint.

Probably my best yet:

the sword was very thickly painted so I scraped it off carefully and repainted it.

Here is:

Your painting skills are fantastic - the (familiar) diorama is terrific and Gamling is exquisite. Very well done!

I really like Gamling's armour and face. Good work on the sword (I saw the first pic, then the second pic!), that amendation was well done.

Thanks for all the replies, next on the line should be Radagast, however there have been ammendments to the Diorama which I will hopefully show you all next week.

Thanks!

Radagast - Excellent painting generally and base though (here comes the Dr. Rodney McKay line) the beard is not quite to the same standard - it has not got matching depth and texture. Maybe some very subtle inking for shade and a little selective highlighting would do it.

I have problems with painting beards and hair myself.

It gets all over the clothes...

:P

LOL, anyway, thanks guys, I could probably redo the beard better but it's probably considered a minor issue at the moment and with it being varnished [nasty GW matt varnish!] and all I will probably leave it.

Thanks guys!

I Had encouragement from some people to try and practise highlights on plastic minis and so here was my first practise!

In my opinion I need to still work on getting the lighting effects better and water my paint down a bit more but I was quite happy with the cloaks finish -

Comments and criticism and tips for improving much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jake

You are definitely going in the right direction mate, as I mentioned to you before now you've got the basics down all you need to do is concentrate on not forcing the highlights, by this I mean making more intermediate mixes and blends so the transition from dark to light is more natural.
Thinning your paints will indeed give you smoother results too but this takes a while to get used to so maybe practice on a few different plastics before attempting it on a model you want to keep.
A good source of reference is the Miniature Mentor series of dvd/ downloads. Worth every penny they are.
