The problem I have with this book is that I want it to be amazing (like the hobbit) but Tolkien just can't hold my interest in this book, each time I try and read it I get about 3 chapters in and just give up.

(I think this is in the wrong place lol)

The Song of the Ainur is one of my favorite pieces of Tolkien's work.

The creation mythology bit at the start still gives me a sore head but when things get going with old Melkor and Co, I enjoy it. The style is a tad high and mighty but I believe the Professor was writing it as if in the style of an elf or Dunadan. It is the pictures it creates in the mind's eye, of vast landscapes, beautiful cities, grim fortresses and terrible wars, and the way in which evil manages to creep, in some twisted fashion, into almost every place, but there is always hope... even in the darkest times.
Only parts of the Silmarillion could be filmed - the span of history is just too great.

I liked every part of the silmarillion, although I understand the first parts are a little boring in comparison to what follows.

These are just about 4-5 chapters, so just keep reading!! :D

Yes, the Silmarillion is awesome, even though a lot of people think it is too slow and it takes a bit of getting used to.

To anyone who's read and liked it, I would recommend
a)Unfinished Tales
b)The History of Middle Earth series (especially Book2 of the Book of Lost Tales for all the stuff about Gondolin.)

Took me a few atempts to fully understand the language used, which i'm sure people have noticed is very different to thet language style in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings but I'v enjoyed every minute of it. I'm repeatedly getting it out of the library, must buy my own copy soon. Unfinished Tales is great as well. Thats another book I need to buy...I'll run out of money if i'm not careful!
