Time for an update me thinx. Work is killing me, but as previously said, I am trying to do little bits each morning before bed.

Anyway...

I have been working on re-doing the window section to the left right of the entrance...not much left to do, just need to get it painted up...so update on that soon...

Inbetween, I have been working on the windows and more paint for the front entrance.
First and foremost, heres how the windows came out...
Image

With every picture of this, I am disappointed with the images as the colouration on the woodwork just wont show correctly :-X

So heres a close-up, still not showing how it truly looks, but I am more than pleased with how it is looking...
Image

As stated, I will get an update of the next window section up shortly, I thought the window designs for the front entrance were extremely important to get right, but am nowing starting to venture towards doing my own thing, again to make things slightly different from Alans designs.
Also started work on re-doing the next window to the right of the one already mentioned (if that makes sense ... 2 windows to the right of the entrance), but not much progress.

How does DB manage it? This is the balrog's busiest time of year, as he battles idiots with shopping trolleys... but then who would want to argue with a demon of the Ancient World when it tells you that you cannot be in the '10 items or less' queue?
Hmm. I wonder does he roar 'You shall not pass!'

Yep, you've really nailed that one Brian - it's a beautifully neat piece of work.

Pity about the door having to suffer - I guess you could always say that there was this large party of dwarves that tried to fit through it all at once and it kind-of got a bit damaged as they tumbled inside.

After last night, I thoroughly needed a laugh...thanx for that guys !!!

Sorry for going Off Topic...but last nights accounts...
21:00 - Enter store. Shelves practically empty throughout the Grocery and Fresh Food sections.
21:45 - staff start to arrive, effing and blinding about the state of the place. DB uses motivational skills (yeah right) to uplift staffs morale
22:00 - Actual start of shift time. Announcement: all staff to checkouts
22:10 - Phonecall from Store Manager...
Ensure Wines & Spirits and Frozen Food are 100% full by 07:00. Explain how empty the shelves are and how little staff I have. Store Manager reiterates both areas must be full without fail. DB hangs up and pees himself laughing.
02:40 - staff that went to checkouts at 22:00, actually get off checkouts and start filling :?

Normal day, wagons arrive pre 22:00. Normal amount of wagons = 2.5.
00:10 First wagon arrives.
00:50 Second Wagon arrives, but breaks down 600 yards from store. Breakdown recovery arrives, detaches trailor and hauls cab off for repaiur 25 miles away.
02:10 3rd wagon arrives.
3:05 4th wagon arrives.
03:40 5th and 'repaired' wagon arrive.
04:30 6th wagon arrives :o

At this point, there is no available 'Smilie' for 'Peeing in the Wind'

2.5 hours left to fill the store.

07:05 Boss arrives, looking like he's just had a Cheese Grater stuffed where the sun dont shine.

Arrive home, look at Hobby related stuff, decide can of beer is more appetizing and wonder if that 'fake' Sting sword will penetrate skin

UPDATE: Bah Humbug !!!!

I feel your pain B.

Just to cheer you up, Here's what I did last night. Basically, I'd told one of the guys at work that I'd go in drag to the staff night out providing I didn't have to shave. Manager overheard and told me I'd never been seen in a dress.

Cue some minor organising with a couple of the lasses on the nightshift.

10 minutes before tea time, me does a bunk to the changing rooms. Come tea time, picture a 6ft tall, very hairy and scruffy, tattooed and pierced man, wearing knee high size 10 F... Me Boots with a 6 inch heel, an off the shoulder pink and black frock, and a pink and black wig with bunches.

Kept it on for the entirety of the tea break, including going outside for a smoke. Didn't realise that some of the dayshift, including management were still in the store due to late opening...

I'll try and upload the pictures when I get them...

Lesson to management - never tell the gaarew he won't do something.

Lesson to me - it doesn't matter how bleak things are, a man in a dress will cause a giggle for numerous people.

Oh, nice Hobbit hole by the way, even if some fat Hobbit broke the door.

Apologies for sending this thread Off Topic, just had a really bad night.

As for updates over Christmas, just finished a shift at 07:00 this morning, have to be back in at 14:00 today until around midnight, but then I have a couple of nights off (at the moment).
As stated, nearly finished the next window section, just need to paint the woodwork, the window itself and everything is complete, so hopefully an update over the next couple of days.

So if any of the new bits are slightly wonky you can blame it on:
(A) Being knackered after all the work up to Christmas
(B) Being somewhat inebriated after all the drinking at Christmas
or - and this is the likely winner:
(C) Suffering post-traumatic stress after the Gaarew-in-a-dress

You guys are the best. Hurry up and finish!

Time for a small update.

Actually, since it's a hobbit hole, all the updates are small.

I took a break from working on window panels and moved into the garden instead.

Well, time for an update as promised. Truth be told, Iv'e been asleep most of Christmas and just finished this piece off when I got up about 1.5 hours ago, anyway, heres the window to the right of the entrance...
Image

New camera for Christmas with 12 megapixels and what looks like a good Macro setting so far, which is picking up more detail.
Onward with redoing the next window which is to the direct right of this one and the last off the windows for that side of the entrance.

you both deserve a statue in hobby-world for the great work you're doing!
Really amazing! This is far th emose pleasant and interesting thread I've seen in a long long time!

What do you guys use again for the frame-work in the window?
I think I must have missed that part somewhere...

To be honest Bart, I have used allsorts since starting this.

01. First and foremost, I bought this from a 'Dollshouse' section in my hobby store and its basically called '10" Green Wire'. Its a little like Garden Wire but stronger.
02. I was doing the 'lattice work' originally with fine Fuse Wire, but again to be honest, it was very time consuming and a lot of work with more faults than successes.
03. At the same Hobby Store (Hobbycraft UK BTW), I found some stickers used to make greetings cards which had a 'lattice' pattern. Its a little tricky as you cant use the 'sticky' side to attach them as it gives a bad result, so you need to superglue them down from the front, whilst trying to stop them sticking to your fingers as you put them into place.
04. The last image you see, the framework was done with thin plastic strips with the added stickers as above for the lattice work.

So basically, if you see 'straight'...its plastic, see 'round' its Wire, see 'Lattice'...its a sticker.
