He said it.

The main problem for me is not what was added, but what was left out. I want the Battles of the Fords of Isen and the Fiefdoms of Gondor, things like that.

I agree. Imrahil would have been so cool in the films

They were joking though, I believe, about Arnold.

Common though: Governor, action star. Who better than Arnold to understand Imrahil from both a political and an arse-kicking standpoint? :P

Oh, and the "Put a shot across its bow" line from the 3rd movie, followed by the childish "You and what army?" line - inane and unoriginal.

They should have had the troops of southern Gondor being held up by the corsairs of Pelargir and Aragorn coming up with the Army of the Dead, wiping out the bad guys. And then Imrahil and his men could have arrived in the black ships with Aragorn etc. A closer match with the books and not relying on the 'magic dead guys' to win the whole battle.

I truly disliked the whole idea of the Army of the Dead, both from the books and the movies - a shallow plot device and poorly conceived from the start. Why would Isildur curse these people with eternal undeadness, only to be released from their torment when Sauron was defeated - when he'd just actually defeated Sauron in hand-to-finger combat, and believed him vanquished forever. And how did he get the god-like magical power to curse people beyond the grave?

I hate how weak and badly trained the WoMT were. In the books they are said to be much better fighters than what they are in the films, so that kind of ticked me off. :(

I really don't like, or agree with most Legolas moments, especially the "skateboard" part, I guess PJ added that for humor, yes it got some laughs, but I did not like it. :(

When the army of the dead come and finish of the battle just by swarming the field. That bit annoys me. In TTT extended edition when Fangorn goes to Helms Deep... also how Saruman dies in RotK extended edition. Not true at all.

I also would have loved to see the scouring of the shire.

i hated when he rode the uruk sheild WITH MANY LEDGES down the ROUGH STAIRS and when frodo lifts sam from the water sam is a big hobbit and frodo is skinny i went camping once and found it hard to lift my 72 lb cousin into a large flat paddle boat and when shelob surprise stings frodo i doubt that a spider like that would wait until he was looking the other way to sting him

Good thread, my major beef with the movies would be the shield slide, i just hated it!
I also didnt like the part in Two Towers when you hear that orc say "we aint had anything but maggoty bread for 3 stinking days" or words to that effect. For some reason the accent always makes me cringe.
I didnt like the army of the dead saving the day, it made the rest of the battle pointless in my opinion.
I got the feeling that Frodo was a whiney little snot for most of the movies, even as I watch it now i dislike most of the Frodo/Sam scenes.

Yeah, I have to agree, that is my least favourite part of the movies. (Along with there being no fiefdorms/grey company/Erkenbrand etc...)! :-X

Pretty much everytime I watch the movies now, I skip through most of those scenes, except for the Mumakil ambush! They're so slow and there's hardly any of the excitement which is felt throughout the rest of the film. :(

Have to agree with you. What kind of army can keep out Sauron's horde for 3000 years and then get slaughtered behind their own 7-layer (8 counting the Rammas) citadel? PJ really doesn't reflect it properly. Half the time there are more dead WoMT than Orcs - Orcs were a cheap spin-off of men, not superior, terminator-like (can't imagine Arnie there  ) monsterthings

2 things i didn't like:

1. In FotR Amon-hen When legolas was shooting down the uruk-hai scouts. They're running, and as soon as they were shot, they would either slow down and fall backwards or they would jump backwards. I find that unrealistic and oafish. If you're running and you're shot, you don't slow down, you fall straight forward unless someone's just shot a spear at you with a really big crossbow

2. In TTT & RotK, How does "more than a match for a man" (uruk-hai) get absolutely owned by "Most have seen too many winters-or too few" (Rohan)
There are only five scenes where the uruk-hai seem to be winning: The 1 berserker that actually makes it onto the wall, The battering ram, Theoden getting speared at the gate, The bombs under the wall, And the uruk-hai that kill Haldir.

And then, In RotK, The best warriors of the good side, WoMT, Are getting absolutely killed IN THEIR OWN FORTRESS by weak, timid, crook-limbed, elf-spawns... (Orcs)

Well that's all i could think of that wasn't already said. :)

okay, the bit in the TT, the terrible counting of uruks gimli and legolas had killed. They both claim 43 (when gimli is sitting on one).

Now, on the battlements, legolas claimed 19, then he shoots at the rope of the ladder support later on when inside the keep, the ladder falls and about 60 uruks get crushed, bad counting don't you think...

Imagine him standing and asking each and averyone of them if he crushed them

Are you referring to the fact that they ARE counting itself, or HOW MANY uruks they are counting?
