Heartbreaking News Brian! Well, we DID all love it to bits, so I guess that's the way the Hobbit Hole .. cookie crumbles. :?

Seriously though, it is a shame. I do hope you can go on and try to make the best of it. Could the tree be saved?

Oh, man, I'm sorry DB. I had a cool lego-medieval tree setup I made for display once, & then a kid decided to play with it. Never got the thing right again. I know what you're going through. It really @#$s. :(

That said, one reason I wanted to know if things were still on is that I've been sculpting some projects of my own to start a little online side-business with, & I was figuring to give a free copy to the winner. (It's a little tin-soldier scale anvil & hammer set, so either of you would surely find some use for it.)

Ugh. I've been away from the site for a bit of time and I just saw an update to this thread and my interest was piqued. Darn the luck. Good luck getting started again! Its not the same but usually when I restart a project it goes smoother the second time as I've already learned from my mistakes.

Brian, what happened to your model is (almost) my greatest nightmare! Luckily we still have the photographs of these lovely doors & windows but it’s poor comfort. I’m not sure I would have the courage to start all over again when a project goes wrong like this. But from what we have seen already, it’s worth the trouble! So, pick yourself back up and show old Dagorbraggart – and us – your quality. As for the broken walls: I shall remember them when I give my vote in the end!

Well, I guess this is a good enough timeas any to tell you all what has happened with my side of things.

I could make this into a very long explanation of what exactly happened, but I dont want to bore you.

I have been putting this off for over 2 weeks now, but it just came out by chance in the Admin Forum, so...

3 of my main pieces which had been redone and not posted up were unfortunately stepped on and totally destroyed by the love of my life (no not Alan).

Its been a very stressful time as my hobby time has been greatly reduce of late, but C'est la Vie, I have started anew (again) but really struggling with motivation at the moment.

This thread ... aint dead (I'm a poet...and dont know it), I will continue, see you all in 24 month when i finally get round to it.

So can we get a before and after picture?

That stinks, did you chain your wife up in the basement for days after?

:( :? My archway template was wrong and that stopped me for a week, I would not know what to do if something like this happened, it would be sooo hard to restart.

Hm, what happened to this one guys? I know Brain's got stepped on, but what force of nature could possible have stopped sir Alan? You should name this project "Lazarus", considering the amount of time it has died, only to be resurrected again. =)
(Come to think of it, my Moria diorama falls under the same category, oh the hypocrisy.)

I can't see the competition hotting up again any time soon. Brian would have to start again again and he's under a lot of pressure at work at the moment. I have my final panel sitting on my desk staring at me, pleading with me to finish it. So maybe soon I'll do an update.

Maybe.

Just came back to the site after a long time away and headed straight over to this thread.... as soon as I read that my heart dropped. Gah, that must have been so frustrating. I can only imagine, the worst i've had is a friend decided to melt down my Aragorn model (fully painted) with a soldering torch!

Sad news, but to hear that you are going to continue it (at some stage) is good. I certainly would have given up now.

That's really terrible news, especially when these creations showed so much talent and promise. Hopefully we see some inspiration and progress soon!

Well, this was buried way down on page 6 of the forum, so that means a whole load of people have been busier than I am when it comes to Lord of the Rings projects. Great work everyone!

Josh (Longbottom Leaf) and I will hopefully be resurrecting this 'build off' in the coming weeks, once I get a major project out of the way and have had time to recover my energy. But for those of you who haven't seen it before, you may want to look through the earlier pages to see what was done up to this point, at least by me.

Knowing either of them that'd be the end of 2011.

Looking back through the thread I stumbled across this rather prophetic comment by Joansean.

That's great, Dag! I've nearly finished the basic anvil & hammer sets (there are now 2 sizes), and I hope to have them ready for casting in about a month. So, we have that prize, now, too!
:D

You are psychic....

Competitors have changed slightly, but jup, that's about when it's going to get finished.

Heh. How weird. Maybe he really is psychic.

Good luck to both competitors.

EDIT: I see Pinky beat me to it. Note to self: learn to start reading before posting. Well, twice said is...err..something positive.

A lott of things have come up recently, and my hobby activity has been fairly low recently. Right now I'm mainly trying to focus my plans and resources on my OR awards entries. I'll be out of town the last week of May visiting relatives in Iowa, so hopefuly I'll be able to start once I get back.

Look forward to seeing you start again, Alan! :)
