Hi Arthur,

Yes, you are clearly too old to be playing with toy soldiers. You clearly should get rid of them and take up something much more adult and age-appropriate as a hobby. You may choose from many, including Golf, restoring classic cars, heavy drinking, frequenting strip clubs, going for brisk walks around the block, telling young people what things were like "back when I was a teenager", or being a fan of your local code of football.

I'm in my mid-30's, and only a fan of a couple of the above "adult" hobbies.

Seeing as you two are Melbournians, what's you team? I follow the mighty Swans!!!!
Yes, yes let the tirade begin!

When I was younger, Collingwood. I've since drifted away from really following football as a supporter though. I can appreciate a good game regardless of who is playing, but would no longer consider myself a "fan".

I'm 26 and have only played LotR SBG. I got into it pretty much as soon as I saw a Two Towers starter set in 2002.

A lot of 26 year old Americans I know eat too much junk food, drink way too much alcohol, are hooked on nicotine and care too much about their job.

I figure working out, eating lots of fish ad fruit, and playing with my "dolls"-I almost got into a fight with my friend when he called them that- isn't the worst thing I could be doing with my life.

I just turned 14 two weeks ago, but i have been playing for five or six years. I play mainly with my two older brothers, and, very rarely, with a couple of my friends.

Just turned 40 myself, so don't panic.
plus just got back yesterday from National Convention here in NZ; whole hall full of blokes of all ages playing toy-soldiers (mostly flames of war, warhammer & 40k). This "kids" were definitely in the minority.

Plus, no disrespect to the younger members of this group, but most adult gamers, have a fair bit of experience under their belts, and often turn out very well painted armies, and terrain. it only comes with time and practice...

To the younger members of the group, yep, we've all been there done that and learned through patience and practice. You will get better, just keep practicing.

Should I seek advice from my psychiastrist?

Hmm, I forgot, he's the president of our club!

Really though, how old are we all ? As mentioned, I am well into my 40s

Cheers,

Arthur :)

Age shouldn't stop you from having fun and doing what you want to do.

Is it Katie Mellua who sings, "Who says, when you get older, you don't need a toy collection?"?

A question in a question - I like that!

What great lyrics. I'm currently having a second teenage-hood instead of a second childhood. Just turned 39 so it's the big four zero next March.

It's a good question, mind you. My own philosophy is that this hobby should ideally be balanced with other interests.

It hammers computer games into the ground and the social aspect of gaming is great. However, I certainly spend more time than I should fussing over miniature people when I should be spending time with real ones!

You probably need to chill out a little, I'd suggest. Who gives a damn what other people think, if you're happy.

Besides, THESE (link) are real mandolls (one of my other hobbies, BTW).

Heh, you'd be surprised. Young people engage in social interaction in many other ways aside from face to face. Things like this forum, MMO games and of course social networking (which I personally can't stand) like Facebook and MySpace. The majority of them also go out and socialise quite a lot. That's one of the main components of both Primary & High School, and of course College/University.

Even regular Videogames are more interactive and social then they have ever been, with all 3 current consoles being online networked for multiplayer, most with headsets, etc. I'm a teacher, so I deal with kids and teens on a daily basis, and I also teach using games and gaming technology. I'm quite in touch with these damn kids.

Besides, if they went outside, you'd have to go out there to your rocking chair on the porch to tell them to get off your damn lawn! :-D

Well then, can't really blame you for losing interest in the game if you followed the Pies! Just kidding!
