Hey guys. I finished the bark, meaning a good part of the model is done. I'm just not really sure I like it... I was trying for something unique, but I'm just not sure if it looks good... Do you guys think I should stick with this guy, or re pant him in a silver birch scheme?

I think he looks interesting and like that you tried to do something unique, and IMHO i think he would look great if the highlights were not as stark. Maybe try adding another shade. As King Elessar said, i think it just needs a bit more time and work. But good so far. :yay:

I personally think it's a solid job right now, but w/c/should be taken further. Maybe add some grey/green to a few areas, add a few patches of moss, etc--just something to break up the monotony.

At the risk of sounding like a noob, what's w/c/ mean?

And yes, there are plenty of areas of moss and lichen on the model, I've just yet to paint those. So, looks like I'll continue on with this, just adding some variety of colors and adding shading as well as tonig down the highlights. Thanks a million for all of the help guys! 8)

Thanks, Dave!

I hope he still looks good, as I tried to follow through on everyone's suggestions for him.I added some darker shades in the cracks and grooves of the wood, and added some glazes of green to some areas. A wash of Scorched Brown then ties it all together. Hopefully it worked out nicely, I'm not really sure. Then again, my opinion might be just be a little biased in the negative, as I've had a lot of trouble working with this guy...

Any thoughts?

Honestly, it's a very decent job on what is basically a pretty plain tabletop miniature. I felt (and still feel) much the same way about my version of the same figure that I painted just a couple of months ago as what you're saying about yours (I'll throw it and my other treeman up on my blog after I finish my challenge figure for a tree-folk edition later on).

It's just not a great "painter's figure", nor is something like the Treebeard that I'm painting - quite simple to made it look decent-to-good, but very hard to make it look far beyond that.

The outstanding figures in this challenge IMO are going to be the unique scratchbuilds, and we've already seen a decent bit of that in the WIP pictures already in the thread.

You've preatty much hit the nail on the head. Although it's a nice model, and like you said can be painted well fairly easily, yet it's very difficult to try something different and have the miniature come out looking good. To be honest, I just was not satisfied with where the miniature was going, and I just seemed to like him less and less the more I tried to improve him. I've decided I'll go for the Birch scheme instead, it's both easier and will be much more satisfying to paint to be honest. Thanks for the help, scipio. Much appreaciated. :)

I'm sorry - but this is not your miniature. The image is taken from Onyx's blog:

http://onyxworkshop.wordpress.com/about ... gs-armies/

Just scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Why would you claim someone else's miniature?
