While waiting for some deliveries I started work on one of the riders. This is the first time I have done a patch design on a horse, so I'm curious to see if you think I've got it right ?

Very nice shading on all minis! Love the choice of colors!

I've never seen a horse painted like that before, but I love the idea and you've done it greatly I think!
The white has a really nice yellowish shade! Wonderfull!

Keep us updated! This looks really very very promising mate!

So do I my friend, but as a married family man with a busy career then like I said in the beginning, this is a slowtime project.
Is patience a virtue or an excuse for the lazy ?

Anyway, with a bit of luck I might be able to get this moved on a bit further and even get to putting some paint on the Mumak.
I will use the traditional grey finish but built up from a dark brown base.

The yellow you mention is in fact Graveyard Earth watered down to about 20 parts water to one part paint.
I was initially tempted to do black instead of dark brown but realised I would have to highlight grey. As I had already done the white with it's brown shading it left me one option really - carry on the brown

You've done a very good job on the rider. I really like how the border between the white and brown is jagged.
May I ask what the design on the boots represent?

It is always good to see progress on this. It's been a while but its worth it. Keep it up.

I am presuming you mean the leg greaves ? There is no plan or design on these, I have simply followed the highlighting in line with the how the model has been sculpted.

I'm working on a mounted Rohan Standard Bearer at present. I'm thinking about 8 cavalry should do it.
However I'm considering having one Rohan on foot next to one of the dead horses - ie he's lost his steed but he's still up for it !
There will be two Harad on foot. One on the rocks with an arrow and the second being ran through by a Rohan spear. I had to even things up with the poor guy getting a tusk through his gut.

Any comments please

Nice work, but you really should do something about that sword.

Excellent painting on both the horse and the rider. :yay:
the only thing that might need another highlight/inkwash is the sword.

looking forward to see how you will tackle the mumakil

This project while big in concept is being done justice with your work, I look forward to updates.

Thank you for the comments and I will see what I can do with the sword, though in real life the edge is brighter than the photo shows !

Well I've managed to make so good progress of late, for me anyway. Five horses done and I reckon another three should do it.

Image
The figure on the right was one of my old figures I have re-painted. I converted him from a bow to the sword as I intend to have him lining up to hack someone's head off. I'm planning on sticking an arrow in his shield to add some dramatic effect !!! That should be fun as at present I am going to hand make about 20 arrows from wire and green stuff
I've just noticed the eyes on the left figure are a bit of a mess... I will sort that. I have re-done his sword so I hope this passes the test

Image
No I haven't forgot a rider. He is is the one stuck on the tusk.

Image
And here they are together. I was tempted to show them on the diorama with the unpainted Mumak, but I think that is best left to the eventual end.

Very nice variety of color on your horses. Well done, I am excited to see the whole thing come together.

I didn't want too much in the way of similar horses as one of the problems I found is that the horses don't have many different poses. So to get about this I decided to paint them different colour schemes so they wouldn't look so alike.
I was just working out, there will be nearly 30 figures on this thing when I have finished and as Gimli said to Legolas about the Mumak..that still only counts as one !!!

great job on the painting of the rohan riders so far. they look nicely; i like that you use different color scheme's for your horses. I am doing the same thing for my wargs.

I've got a couple of weeks off so I'm thinking of slapping some paint on the Mumak
