Thanks for posting some to-scale pics; it looks like you've balanced the difference in the two scales pretty well. 8)

As was suggested, I have made additional stairs sections, and have added them to the ends of each wall, leading up to towers from both direcitons.

Image

The good thing about these stairs is that I cut them out of 50mm thick sheet, so for each set of stairs for the castle, I have an extra, albeit slightly rougher cut, section.
So I have 6 sets of stairs with a ragged and worn appearance. I figured I could join them all together, and I'll have a nice piece for the Dwarrowdelf! :-)

Whoa boy, one project at a time me thinks ;-)

Thanks.
Since its going to be a desert themed castle, I'm gong with a sandstone type look, so working up from a mid brown base tone, and dry brush up through progressively lighter yellows.

Wow! I can't wait to see it finished!!
You can also add red flags with snakes, to make it more in harad style.

Yes I had thought of that, but was thinking of a way perhaps to make such pennants detachable so others could be added in their place. For example if Gondor captures the Harad fortress, then they can show Gondor banners of the white tree. And now Harad will be come the attacker to try and capture it back!

Or to continue the crusades theme, have the crusaders red cross on white field emblem.

Looking down the line,
I can build siege towers to attack the castle, and log rams.
Both are covered in LOTR SBG rules.
Stone throwers of course and ladders...

But what about other medieval siege weapons ( both attack and defence); such as Mantlets, Sows, Crows, even mining.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas for these?

It takes a lot of work for all the other siege weapons, I would do the things that are covered in the lotr rulebook.
And then some stones and throwing spears, and if you have time etc. left, do the medieval siege weapons.

But, perhaps it's not fair against your son.

Siege warfare is fun.You could build any thing you can think of from match sticks and it is all commercially available too. I want to recommend these two rule sets, the first addition of Warhammer Siege and the current addition of WHA siege. The Warhammer Siege rule set supported WHFB2.5 and Rouge trader/40K and the WHF Roleplay Game. The first 3 additions of WHFB and The first addition of 40K required a game master. There are all kinds of ideas and suggestions for scenarios and optional rules. The ideas for hidden movement, maps, supplies, equipment, hoarding, fire, and mining, are very useful.
HWBS will be worth a look if you just show your son the pictures The LORSB rules adapt well and can easily handle new equipment.

I am looking forward to seeing the model finished. You have done fine work so far.
I think you son might like this old movie. It is still one of my favorites bad wigs and all.

The Vikings 1958
Starring
Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Ernest Borgnine, Janet Leigh, James Donald...

The fortress looks a lot better now IMO with the stairs in the corners.

Hi thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have those books too, I was just wondering if anyone had converted such warhammer based rules to SBG format, and if so how had they worked out?

As for the Vikings, yes that was an old favourite of mine too :-) I'll have to see if I can find it in the dvd bargains section at the local store...

Finally got some work done on this project today. Completed gate, with hinged doors.

Busy working on internal doors for towers and ramparts. Decided that since castle has multipile configurations, doors would be best made separate and can then be "blu-tac-ed" into place where needed.

Thanks for the encouragement.
I've skimmed coated most of the castle now in polyfilla, and have made 20 separate door pieces, that can be positioned as needed.
Trying to press on with this now (i've got a few days annual leave to use up).

Great work! It's really coming along nicely 8)
Are you going to add hinges to the doors to finish them off?
Keep it up.

Thanks.
What sort of article are you after? I could have taken more construction pictures, but didn't want to clog forum with unnecessary pictures.
What format would an article be wanted in? MSWord, PDF or something else. How should it be submitted?

Cheers
Scott
