I've read that Angmar is the worst, but toying with this:

Buhrdur
Shade
Orc w/ banner
20 Orcs with shield
20 Orcs with spear
4 Orcs plain

47 units 3 might 0 bows (but one serious rock thrower) 500 pts.

The Shade's -1 to enemy fight rolls, plus banner and spear support should win lots of fights. Buhrdur's 4+ throwing accuracy first got me interested...but I suppose I want him in the fight with his 3 attacks, instead lobbing from the side. Useful for Take and Hold... Variations could include a Capt of Baradur, or Thyrdan Wolfsbane...maybe some Giant Spiders as flank support. Thoughts?

You can remove 2 plain orcs and give 10 orcs with spear a bow as well.

Good, yes. Anyone actually use Buhrdur and his 4+ stone throw accuracy? Anyone ever use Shades? Are they worth the points?

Buhrdur
Shade
1 orc w/ banner
20 orcs w/ shield
10 orcs w/ spear
10 orcs w/ spear & bow
2 vanilla orcs.

Shade's are definitely used, and are great. I might consider dropping the two vanilla orcs and a spear orc for a spectre. :) Buhrdur is definitely better in combat than off to the side having a 50% chance to hit.

Spectres sounded good, but how often can I expect a hero to fail a courage test? Is there a tactic for using them that I'm missing?

Sentinels are great because the odds are with you at courage 2, but the odds are against you starting at courage 3, which makes Spectres a lot less useful. I've had a great time with the former, but not so much with the latter.

The shade is great, if it doesn't get shot. Keep it well shielded.

you dont really use specters on heros unless there is a nazgul that has been draining courage. its more for getting one of there troops to walk right into a cluster of your guys or move stuff like trolls or banners

I like this list. An Orc shieldwall with a Shade and a banner will hard to break.

I think he means an Orc with no optional wargear. I hear they go great with hot fudge and peanuts. :)
