Love the site, nice clean and navigatable. The rosta's however need reformatting as most of the charts are all over the place where colums and rows don't line up properly and some have copy/paste issue like Rohan having MT options.
Hope that helps, and when its done, make a printable version :)

I like battle company sized games, But I don't like the starting companies nor the promotion rules. I'd rather the company creation and advancement worked more like the LOTR offshoot games Legends of the High Seas and Legends of the Old West.

hey kidterminal could you give me an overview or insight into how legends of high seas/west is different in this regard? I am also not convinced by the advancement & promotion and am currently looking at ways to improve it.
thanks numenor

Well in simplest terms, these systems allow you to buy a basic troop type and equip it from a pool of army points. So let's say you want 3 men of Gondor with spears; you'd spend the points as if you're creating a SBG force. Now these 3 guys form a unit and will gain experience similar to Mordheim. Once they gain enough experience ( I think its 8 points) they get a roll on the advancement table. This table has +1 advancements for fight, Defense, Shoot etc... So each unit becomes a veteran unit with time. You could lift the Mordheim Advancement table and use it with Battle Companies, they are much the same. Please not units are only composed of figures armed the same.

so with this in mind how would you change battle companies? im a bit divided about having a unit of 3-4 guys within a unit of 7-9 starting models? or have i misread your post? and at the start your battle company is one unit?

You have the gist of it. A company would be composed of heroes (and here LotHS and LothOW have a number of hero types) and various troop units. LOTR doesn't have as many heroes but adding the 2 fate point lieutenants would help with this. Here is an example:

Dwarves

Heroes:
Dwarf Captain
Khazad guard
Lieutenants

Troops:
Rangers with bows (3)
Rangers with throwing axes (4)
Warriors with shields (5)

I hope this gives you and idea of what I'm suggesting.

its an interesting idea... my main concern is loss of variety in models, to me one of the greatest aspects of battle companies is the small & detailed decision's made on each model that are possible because of the low number of models. If you were to combine all your Dwarf Archer's together you would lose that i think?

The unit designations is purely for upkeep. The figures in a unit do not have to stay to near each other on the battlefield. The units serve only to track experience.

sorry i think you thought i meant movements and strategy within the game i realize this is not the case in either game. im more worried about how a grouped unit collects different equipment, abilities and rewards?

the site has just gone under a major overhaul! so be sure to check it out... the core rules section is almost completed. the company profiles still need work though.
