The command units- in particular the standard bearers all have such great epic poses that they will look great when a lot of effort is put into them from a painting challenge, it will also be nice to see a vast variation of figures from different armies and races....

It's a hard choice. In the end, I went for monsters; I've got a Fell Beast that needs painting...

I know I won't have time to participate in the challenge, but just in case, I chose Finecast; of three options, I only have a Finecast model unpainted. Now, what I'd like to see though is a whole collection of pictures for the command group option. That would be an epic gallery on voting day. I think the monster option is the most difficult (time-wise), and generally the most expensive, and possibly the most boring in the end. But lol, its winning...

Which ever way the vote goes, Command Group or Monster, count me in. I'll either do a Rohan Captain and Standard Bearer or Gwahir.

But if it comes down to Finecast, that goes against my pledge not to buy any more figures until I paint some of my backlog.

Actually this challenge fits in nicely with Erunion's backlog reduction idea. :D Now if only we could get the "Paint me an army" topic going again....

If there's enough interest I could try and see about getting that started again. Afterall I too need to paint my army.

Hilbert, can you count a Shade as a monster (it is big) and Sauron .

Sauron, like the Balrog, is a 'Maiar' and according to the WotR rulebook, they are both Monsters. But then so is a battering ram, apparently.

The Shade is a Monster too.

I have so many possible choices for either the monsters or the command that I really don't even care which wins. :)

I went for monsters and command-unit... since I still feel my breakfast coming up again when hearing about the finecast-things...
So, unless they come up with something very lovely in finecast, I won't have any of it...

So, now that I voted I should keep myself to the promise of taking part again in September (if it turns out to monsters or command-unit)... Still so many things to paint... heh..

Well I've been looking all over this forum for over a year now and I've finally joined, because of this painting challenge! I've got a Cave Troll (from MoM) that needs to be painted. Yes they are grey but he's a bit TOO grey at the moment...I go back to school in the beginning of September but if this starts early enough I'll definitely participate! I'm a fast painter! Not very good. But fast! Let's hope for monsters and an early start date!

Voted for monster. Do bat-swarms count as monsters? *crosses fingers* :)

I'm not sure what we're using as the way to judge if they count as monsters or not. A bat swarm looks pretty monstrous to me, but the War of the Ring book calls them cavalry - which in game terms might be acceptable, but seems like a ludicrous way to describe them.

I think we are going by whether they are stated as being a monster in their profiles though I'm not sure what Hilbert wanted to use to judge it, as it is his idea. I don't have the Khazad-Dum book to hand at the moment so can't check if they are classed as monsters in there or not though if they aren't in the War of the Ring book then I doubt they will be. They definitely look monstrous, but I don't think I'd call them a monstrous creature, afterall they are made up of several small creatures.

They are just in the warrior list. I, personally don't think they are either.

Even a single giant bat is hardly small, a whole cluster of them is a similar size to a cave troll, they should be monsters! :x
