Is it worth purchasing the extended versions. Would you consider them to have much more content. I'm set on asking for them for my bday but I want to make sure I'm making the right choice.

I know its bad of me to suggest this but your better off getting them online...

However, RoTk does have some pretty sweet extra scenes, two towers, i didn't really notice anything different and fellowship does have some nice extras :)

They're well worth the extra value in my opinion, not just for the extended scenes but for all of the other bonus features as well.

It's extremely difficult to find all the 'making of the film' online, so unless you just want to watch the extended scenes you should buy it.

The extended versions are the ONLY versions IMO. I can't imagine anyone willingly watching the theatrical versions when there is an option.

As for the special features, there are a lot of them on the extended discs, and they are pretty good for what they are, but that isn't saying a whole lot.

My wife prefers the theatrical versions because of the length of the films, but I love the extra material covered in the EEs.

How about purchasing them on iTunes? Has anyone done this? Are the special features included with the purchase of the Special Extended Edition. I can not tell from description or reviews.

I'm not sure but purchasing on iTunes would probably cost more than purchasing from ebay or Amazon anyway.

Actually, iTunes costs only 30 dollars to buy all 3 extended movies. As we have gift cards lying around we are doing this! The extra scenes are most important to us! It's safe to say we are excited!!! :) :)

EDIT: we have started watching the first extended one and it is awesome!
