some questions:
1. wath are the standard rules for tournament
2.my friends were discussing about 'the grand tournament', one said they call all tournament like that, the other one said it's the world championship of the GW
It c onfuses me, has anybody an answer, and if the first friend is right, the next question is: is there a world championship of the GW
1. Look for threads discussing each tournament, the participants may have lists of some tournament specific rulings etc that are not in the WOTR FAQ. Otherwise, I think 1500pts and the full mix of missions, deployments, is what they do.
However
2. Tournament participants are sometimes quite amped by the whole thing and want it to matter a great deal. GW (and other companies) also like to talk things up with impressive titles (you know, in the same way people have job titles like 'executive assistant' or are CEOs of firms with only a handful of staff). For any wargame, actual tournament participants are a minority and there generally isn't a structure, like in sports, where local competitions build up in levels to national/world ones. Most tournaments, and this is the case for all LOTR ones, are just opens where a few keen people get to self-select. Other wargames at least have annual rankings (over multiple tournaments) and qualifier systems for a 'Masters' - WOTR on the other hand is the reverse of that situation. If you are going to an event, I'd treat it like your local games with some new guys in a different venue. Only a minority turn up so it isn't any more representative of the total field than that. This kind of thing is fun but I wouldn't get too worried about it
They did try an 'Ard Boyz' format, including WOTR, where local tournaments qualified for a larger event but I am not sure how well established that became.
