I thought my oath was totally busted when I bought Dreadfleet and got a box full of ships. Then I decided that they do not count because... Um, I don't know, they just don't. :)

Painted today two haradrim to be able to order Orc shaman for the painting challenge, so I'm good.

Dreadfleet doesn't count. Only real games. :-P

Alright I need some motivation to keep up my painting and this backlog oath doesn't help me much since I bought just about almost everything I wanted. Plus there's not too many oath takers here that are suffering the consequences because everyone has been pretty much up to par; BORING! So that's why I'm issuing out this challenge for anyone who has the stones to take it:

viewtopic.php?f=50&t=19235&p=256266#p256266

Who can really man up and paint the most?! Even with Christmas and New Years Eve in the way!

I have a question. Do you have to paint double the minis in order to buy a box of, say, warriors of Rohan? Paint 48 models before you can buy them?
What about buying big monsters like the Balrog or the Mumakil?
I've looked for the decision that was made but can't find what out where it is.

Also... Does this oath count for buying 40K models?
Thanks for the help!

I have taken it so that other games' minis don't count AGAINST the oath, but when I paint something from other games, I get to buy new LotR minis. :)

OK, I don't play WFB or 40k but I like boxed games like Space Hulk and Dreadfleet and I would never be able to buy those boardgames if they were part of the oath. Why they work towards completing the oath is that I don't see it as compulsory to paint board game pieces as real miniature wargaming minis. Therefore they provide a bonus to the oath. But that's just my sneaky way of bending the rules...

How many models should I paint to buy the Balrog? And if I paint a Mumakil + crew, how many points is that worth?
Thanks for the help.

Some progress:
I just finished painting 6 warg riders, x2 Frodo, x2 Sam, and Merry and Pippin.
Currently working on a lot of Uruk-hai. :?

Does getting models as presents count? If not, I swear I will not buy any Napoleonic models until I have finished twice the amount from my backlog...

Still have 3/4s of a French army, half a Russian army, half an Austrian army, a Prussian army, a British army, and a Dutch army to finish...

For LOTR, my backlog is 1 figure I can start on, and 30 for which I await Xmas, so I can get started on converting them. (I have this funny feeling I'll get a Citadel Drill and some Green Stuff then :-D ).

I'd like to join in, and as gifts from other people don't break the oath (wording below (not purchasing, being given)), I won't fail immediately - I look forward to the repainting of over 100 Dwarves, Mahud, Uruk-Hai Scouts, Warriors and Knights of Minas Tirith.... and a load of other stuff

Fortunately for me, I only get a few at a time. It doesn't take that long to paint a single box or several blisters of minis. I don't have a single unpainted mini, though I will be repainting 32 goblins. Hmmm, maybe I should participate just for them.

Score so far: Got as presents (which don't count :D ): -48 French Fusiliers
-4 French Guard 12pdr batteries
- 12 French Cuirassiers

Painted: - 1 coat of white on 8 Austrian Grenadiers

This is going the wrong way...

Well bad news and good news on my front. Bad news... I've not painted anything recently. Good news... I haven't bought anything either! Though I will hopefully be starting on Gimli this week.

We have Progress!

I finished 2 companies of Austrian Grenadiers (Kaiser Franz Regiment), 2 Batteries of French Horse Artillery (with a Limber) and a company of Austrian Cuirassiers (Kaiser Franz Regiment). Austrian Cuirassier staff on the table now, I hope to finish them tomorrow or saturday. After that French Fusiliers.

(If I annoy anyone by posting about Napoleonics in an originally LOTR thread, please say so, I will stop and just say wether I kept the oath or not)

Keep up the good work Telchar, I've just finished 20 Warriors of the Dead, and am currently stripping my Rohan army.
Removed from Backlog - 40. Bought - 0. 4.19% of my Warriors backlog removed (38/939)

Thanks! I'll put the last coat of grey on the hooves of my Austrian Cuirassier Command tomorrow, and after that I'll start on the 4th repaint for my goblins (crappy paintcoat, Dark Green Skin, Light Green skin, now for a khaki skin with brown and green cloth.

34 High Elves done. Removed from Backlog - 74. Bought - 0.
7.45% of my Warriors backlog removed (70/939).

Looks like the new releases won't be able to defeat me :)

24 haradrim with chieftain and banner bearer done from the backlog, total painted last month is 26. Bought Sauron box, which I count as 4 because Sauron is so large and there are also Elendil and Isildur in it. So that still keeps me at +22.

LotR backlog is now exactly 100, other backlog 67 not counting minis from boardgames like Space Hulk etc. I don't count LotR duplicates into the backlog because in any case I want to keep a strategic reserve of duplicates for conversions, dioramas, alternative painting schemes and random bits. Again twisting the rules... :)
