Cool Khandish mini's there mate! :)

Really like the colour scheme - its different but works really well! :-D

Looking forward to seeing the cavalry

P.S Will be interesting to see the decals for the banners, but have you considered something simple like a star or some kind of eye or tower? - Just a thought. :)

Thanks for the positive comments guys - much appreciated.

galadhrim100 - I tried a basic star but it looked Devlan Mud. I need a stencil I think but it's hard to get this right on the flags. I might end up back doing that if the decals look silly. I don't know how others do such fantastic freehand!

Very steady hands and more patience than you know what to do with is what works for me. Even then, my freehand looks amateur compared to others out there.

Very nice colour scheme, unusual but works great.

What I find helps when doing freehand (thought im not very good at it myself.) Is to go throught a few practice runs on paper, planning out how you are going to do it. I find it helps because then my hand is used to the motions and I also have a better idea what im doing.

Give it a go. Your freehand can't be worse than mine! :)

I've made some progress on the Khand horsemen. A bit of touching up to do still. I used decals on the flags just to see what it would look like. I'm pretty happy with the result. Not 100% sure of the design but the aim was just to give it a try (never done it before). Certainly will use decals again (1000 times better than my freehand!).

Sorry photos are blurry - the light here is terrible at the moment. Next up is the king and chariot!

As he stated they are decals. Though they still look terrific.

Ah aye, I should have read it, but the word aren't as exciting as the picures. My comments on the warriors' excellence still stands.

Thanks for all the comments guys - much appreciated.

Yeah decals, not freehand. I feel like using decals is cheating a bit, but they did turn out really well. I could have painted over the decals and then claimed I painted it all freehand but that would be too naughty

Got 2 chariots to do and then the Khand army will be done.

They look great!
Sorry so how actually does decalling a figure work? do you paint onto a cut out design and then kind of stamp it on? do you use a cut out design and place on the figure and paint around/over the top of it or what?
Thanks

Hi Legolas
I used what's called 'dry transfers' - The design is already printed onto special paper. I cut each individual decal out (they come in sheets) discarding the bits I didn't want, peeled off the backing paper, then placed the decal over the flag and rubbed over the top using a blunt end of a paint brush or similar. The top of the decal is covered in special paper and this peels away when you rub over it leaving the decal attached (hopefully!) to the flag or whatever surface you want. You can also use decal softner brushed over the decal to make it adhere more to the surface and soften the ends so it gives a more painted on look.

Decals are commonly used on military minis like tanks or planes. The ones I used are actually from Hungarian tanks - I just cut out the tiger design because I liked it and it seemed to fit the Khan theme.

I finished the Khand King on foot. Also posted a picture of the cavalry in better light. And for something completely different and off topic - a couple of photos of a troll I painted yonks ago (one of my first attempts). I like the skin colour on the troll. Took me ages to get it the way I wanted. Rest could probably do with some highlights.
