right here comes the list...

FC Dragon - Mostly fine, wings were bubbled but liquid GS covered those up fine, couple of the spines were miscast but a file sorted them out

FC Ringwraiths (box of 9) - Meh, about 4 were acceptable, 5 were miscast either in swords or hands. 2/5 were replaced, the other 3 were 'fine' apparently.

Gondor Command box - Meh - Banner and captain were fine. White tower dude's sword was bent to the heavens, never got it straight, wasnt replaced. Hornblower has a miscast sword and shield was missing a chunk out of the corner but fixed that easily enough.

Boromir, KoWT - Ok - foot model was perfect except for one bubble on the sword hilt. Mounted was also ok except for the banner was a bit bendy. Partly due to FC, partly due to design. Massive banner on a small pole.

Troll Chieftan - Ok - Some bubbles around the chains that hold the armour on, had only one eye but fixed that.

Groblog - Good

Ashrak - Perfect (well it is single form, so quite easy to get right)

Warg Marauder - Ok - Nose was missing and leg gaps needed filling. Didnt bother with replacement, just sculpted a new one, cant tell the difference now.

Opinion: Stay away lol. Feels so fragile when you are painting it. Much prefer metal or plastic.

Edit: Added in the goblins. Forgot I had them.

I haven't bought much Finecast, but my experience with it hasn't been too great. The worst cases are the Galadhrim Banner Bearer missing half of his banner (it hadn't broken and come in two pieces, it literally hadn't been cast), Frodo's feet having been snapped off and Merry's sword broken in half (but again, the other piece wasn't in the box).

There's one box of the Nazgul that I've been 'hmming' and 'ahhing' over the past few weeks everytime I've been into the local store, but I'm so hesitant to buy the set only to find miscasts and ruined models inside. It's a shame, because I should be able to just pick up and buy an item without worry, and in my opinion Finecast could be such a wonderful product :(

Ik gues you cannot return any model that is miscasted ( what i read in this post missing parts of banner etc) in think its stupid that you pay a lot for these model and they are not up to standards. Buying something and being affraid that its not compleet/broken/miscasted and what more. .only thing in had was aan missing hornblower in my Dwarf command box and some weird line in my warg marauder (that i found out of after i almost was ready with painting geheel.)

I took the Galadhrim Commanders box back and they replaced the banner bearer straight away, no questions or hassle. But in my stubborn and awkward eyes that's beside the point. In all the years of buying metal and plastic, around a decade now (wow that makes me sound/feel old!) the only issue I ever had was buying Attack on Weathertop and finding that a Nazgul was missing. With Finecast, most of the products have had defects. Alright, some are only minor complaints that take five minutes to sort out, but when I'm paying so much more I expect the model to be a little better in quality.

But I don't want to sound all mopey and whiney and negative. I like Finecast, or the concept at least. I would like it even more, but Games Workshop won't let me! Hopefully they'll have sorted out the workings and processes soon enough.

Great Beast of Gorgoroth - Needed to be reshapen with heat but was done easily.
1 Orc had no top half of the bow, just green stuffed a new one.
2 Orcs had bubbles but it looked fine because orcs are supposed to look a bit scruffy, if it was a WOTR it would not have been acceptable.
7 Orcs were perfect

generally, you can get them replaced.

If you mean a mold line, you get that in metals and plastics too.

@Sticky Fingersss, was the Commanders spear wobbly?

Wasn't wobbly but was curved. Heated it up and it's almost straight (it's hard to notice that it's not straight but in reality spears were not always 100% straight anyways)

re. the line or scar on the wargs head - paint small black horizontal lines accross the full length of the line - would make a great scar that had been raggedly sitched up.

As long as you except poor quality cast you will get poor quality cast.

I bought some models of the Dwarf Command box from Ebay, all models looked great, no defects, except on the hornblower, there was a little hole on the rim beneath his chainmail (if you know what I mean) but I never fixed it, it lookded pretty cool, like his armour has been suffering from all fighting or something :) there also was a little hole in his horn, but it was on the bottom of the horn, so nobody'll notice it unless they look at the model from beneath. So far I'm pleased, atleast with the models, the price still bugs me.. and I still prefer the metal models though, even if details might be a little worse, I'll be sure my models will not be miscasted.

So with all its little defects, is Finecast worth the "premium" charged prices? Though the details of the models are suppose to be more "crisp" than metals, in the end it's the paint job is what makes a model truly shine because if you do a crummy flat paint job on a Finecast, or even a mediocre job, is it still worth the money spent on the model? Does an 8 to 10 year old kid really need a fine detailed model as if his painting will do it justice? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are some rare talented kids out there.

Hopefully quality will improve by time they release The Hobbit miniatures for those who are still planning to collect them all.

Personally I like the weight of the metal and w/ the plastic guys I find less crud I have to cut of them. I have yet to pull a finecast guy out of package and he is ready to be based.

Fine cast list
Dwarf Command -All decent Hornblower miner defects in armor.
Balin-tab fell off as I pulled him from packaging.
Dain-tab had odd supports around the feet had to modify it so it could be based

I agree that some people dont need the extra detail. For me personally, the extra detail motivates me to paint better. I feel almost like it's a waste if I paint sloppily. I do understand that finecast is not desirable for everyone, but in my situation, I'm totally fine with it.

Gil-galad/elrond = great no problems
Iron guard= ok: axe handles bent down, bubbles(not to noticeable)

Overall I'm pleased with finecast. Though I still prefere metal because they are MUCH more durable. Though I think that for large models finecast would be good, for man sized models, metal will do much better!

There is no extra detail in a finecast vs metal version of the same model. Both molds were made from the same master, therefore there can be no difference. Take a look at my WIP thread and find the two gondor captains. One is finecast and one is metal, no difference.
The difference you see is the materials properties in relation to light. Metal will reflect and scatter the light making it difficult for your eye to identify details, the resin does not have that property.

Sorry Jobu but i have to disagree.
There is a difference but not in the actual start point.

After several casts a mold for metal will deteriorate and things such as facial hair, chain mail etc will lose their crispness(if that is a word), where as with finecast that is less of an issue... obviously replacing that issue with the fact a bubble might be in the place of the chain mail is not so good
