Did anyone notice, Turin the Dragonslayer? Silmarillion stuff!!!
I did. I can only speculate that we will see more back ground for the Dragons. The Rumor is the 2th movie may be called the Desolation of Smaug
Yep. There will probably be a brief flashback to Turin Turambar as part of the build-up for the meeting with Smaug. It is a clever way of building up expectations and improving the impression when Smaug reveals his gem-studded belly to be weapon proof (except for that one weak spot he was unaware of), as well as tying in some Silmarillion stuff as a optimistic little preparation for future movies to earn money by producing.
The movie license for Silmarillion remains with the Tolkien eastate, but we can only hope to see some Silmarillion movies in the future. Despite some weak parts in
the Return of the King movie (namely the lack of the Grey Company, the lack of the gathering of Fiefdom reinforcements and the lack of Easterlings and Haradrim infantry and cavalry), the trilogy as a whole must be seen as a huge succes, odd scenes notwithstanding. Heck, I, my brother and our friends were
introduced to Tolkien's universe through the movies. Thanks to Peter Jackson, I read the trilogy,
the Hobbit,
Silmarillion and some other stuff far earlier in life than I would otherwise have done. I do not look forward to the rumoured dwarven boar riders and nor do I like the short beards of the dwarves, but otherwise I think these upcoming movies will be about as good, and do Middle-Earth almost as much justice, as the trilogy did. Best of all, of course, is the huge amount of dwarves in the movie!
If we indeed will see Silmarillion movies in the future, I do hope Weta Workshop make Fëanor and the flight of the Noldor justice.
