So, my exams are done, it is time to return to Middle Earth!
After I checked my army, I decided, it is time to make one of my greatest model, the Fell Beast. I got this monster as a used figure. It was assembled and base-coated, but not painted.

Image

I decided, I want a flaming sword instead of a mace. I already had a lot of unnamed Nazgul, so I cut on of their sword. I made flames carefully from green stuff.

Image

I filled the gaps also. There were a lot of gaps at the tails and the wings.

Image

Image

I made holes to the wings. After I filled the gaps, I polished everything, so I got a nice surface. It is very hard to make a huge figure like this after small miniatures.
I used the mace also, I gave it to the Nazgul, I mentioned before.

Image

I mixed to many GS, so I used it. I finally finished my siege bow, I made pins everywhere. Ready to paint.

I still had to many mixed green stuff, so I finally built magnets to my trolls legs. I did this, cause it is hard to put them into the case, because of the big base. But now I can remove the base easily. One of them is already painted, but I have to finish the other also. I made a custom mask armor for it. I also made it in runner position, it just stands on one leg.

I started the painting finally with the wings. I painted the skin part first. I used 5-6 colors for it, first I tried to paint a nice shade, then I applied several layers of drybrushing and self-mixed washes. I also painted veins with a toothpick. I'm not absolutely satisfied with the result, but I think I cant make a better painting. It will be fine, I hope so. Now, it is time to paint the down part of the skin :)

Like I sad, it is difficult. I used 6 colors. First I made a surface from grey+graveyard+khemri brown. I added black and brown to the edges. I used several layers of highlights and washes. For the wash I used some green, black, brown, but these washes were very wet. For the veins I used brown and black with some water. The transparency is important here, cause the veins are under the skin.

Wow, the time you have put in your army shows your commitment to the Dark Lord :) The wings, needless to say, are absolutely amazing and the siege bow looks even better than the GW model!

I like the siege bow. I think people should not be afraid to customise or even create variations on standard equipment like the catapults, rams, boats, siege towers and so on, especially for the forces of Mordor, because, let's face it, quality control and consistency are not among the more notable traits of the orcs. Longer throwing arms, taller shields - you name it, they'll bodge something tha works but may not resemble what the next orc in line is using.
Nice fellbeast too!

The vein detailing on the wings looks spot on and really adds something to the paint job.
