Yes, seems like the balrog wil get plenty of options to start a nice little dwarf bbq. .

Here's the next update.

I've made the lava streams with my soldering iron and have started painting.
The grey basecoat and textured painting are done, now it will just be a few touch ups and then on to the lava.
here are the pics of yesterday evening and this afternoon.

The lava cracks.

The basecoat.

And the textured paint.

The board is still pretty empty, but I've decided to first finish the board and then make the gate, bridge, rocks and ruble piles as seperate pieces for easy storage.

As alway coments and critisism are most welcome.

Interesting. Goblins won't have to test for the jumps but the Dwarfs will. Right? Would make some interesting battles!

Thanks for the comments.

Did some more work on the board.
The basic color for the lava is now done, aswell as the first drybrush and a lot of touch ups.

Here is the board in several stages.

Up next is another coat of textured grey paint and then the highlights and light effects.
(then the rims and a thin layer of woodglue and the main board is finished.)

Hey this mini project is looking good. The lava is coming out well. My only suggestion might be to file the edges so that they are smoother and not so stiff. If you wanted you could even mix some paint into some silicon to give you depth of the lava. Will look very nice once finished and full of models. 8)

Thanks for the comments.

@ Drum: The silicon sound like a good idea, I will most certainly try it on a test piece. 8)
And I agree about the edges, but I will leave it this way, as I was never really satisfied with the look of sanded down low density polystyrene.
(So maybe on another project when I have better foam.)

There will be another update, but I don't know exactly when.

once again it has been a while since the last update, but here it is. :)

I've not yet done a lot, because all the hobby time I had I've used to find more info on cathedral building.
(still need to find the place but I want to build a huge (2/2,5 meter long) gothic cathedral.)
So, once I find the space and order 20kg of plaster from tiranti (thanks for the link drum) I'll start with the foundations and the underground bits.
(I want it extremely detailed, so every room will be visible, or at least, that's the idea.)

Today I wanted to try what drum said about the lava and silicone kit, however as you can see on the picture, I had a small problem.
Image
The silicone had become comepletely solid even before it was opened. :?
So, I'll try it again in the future with a new one.

But, I've done a bit more work on that board. (used something like an orange wash to give it a glow.)
Image
Image

I quite like the effect, but the board is still far from finished.
If someone has any sugestions for the board itself (for the terrain I still have a few ideas, but not for the board.) please tell me, but remember it needs to remain flat, to reduce chances of damage and for easy transportation.

@ old man willow: the vinegar worked :D , so the romans are basecoated and ready for some more paint.
Image

I've also started painting the gate.
Only the basecoat is done, but after that it will go pretty fast. (the plaster seemed to drink the paint)
Image

And the last picture is a bit dull but also the most promising as I'll start building a tower on that base.
I think I'll have enough bricks around next friday. (my current plaster sets very slow.)
Image

I'm sorry about the pictures, they are not of the usual quality but i was useing a diffrent camera.
Comments and critisism are, as always welcome.

Thanks for the comments.

I found some time to work on the Tharbad board.

I've started on a hirst arts bell tower and on a foamboard house (original plans are from dagorlad)
Building the tower is a lot of fun, but I'm not entirely statisfied with the quality of the casts.
(which is partly my own lack of casting skills and a bit to blame on the poor plaster.)
But, since I intend to make the tower look like it is being repaired (with scaffolding around it etc), it doesn't mather if there is an extra crack.

Image

Image

And here's the house

Image
It's really a pleasure to build, but my hobby knife is broken and what's left of it is very blunt, so I'll have to repair some of the edges.
And here's a picture of this wonderfull blade. (perhaps I should buy a new one  )
Image

As always, comments and critisism are most welcome.

Nice job. Don't worry about the blade, most of mine look like that :)

Regarding idea with silicone I think that clear acryl would b btter choice it's more flexible so it shouldn't crack plus smell of silicone will drive you mad :) (not only whilt applying but also later for couple of weeks during playing)

@ haldir: thanks for the comment, but could you be a bit more speciffic about the clear acryl? (I don't entirely understand what you mean)
And thanks for poining out the smell, I've broken my nose three times, so I don't smell it, but the rest of the family will be very grateful to you. 8)

I also have a small update.
The house is ready for a basecoat (After that I'll add the doors, windows and all the details.)
Image Image
Image
Of course the gold details will not remain gold (I think I'll paint the house in a sandstone colour.)

Will try to give it a lick of paint tomorrow.

You can easily buy transparent acryl online. As far as I remember it's mostly used buy beauticians to work on nails :) but's I think there's also sanitary version (only difference is volume I guess). For sure acryl is sold in same tubes as silicone ( though I don't know if transparent is sold as that as well). Another flaw of silicone is that after drying it will get kind'a milky and not transparent at all. So acryl is your best shot, check on eBay or at nearest DIY market :)
